We arrived there in a fantastic car ride inside the black forest. The road is reaaly not very wide with 180 degrees curves. The view from the top is very nice. We went during the summer so there was a lot of people paragliding from the top. There is a large parking area.

6 mile drive uphill from Waldkirch (though you can walk it) lots of walks around the top. Stunning vistas, nice restaurant and hotel up the top. Beautiful scenery, outdoors,

Waldkirch was rather grey and dreary, but with every meter you climbed, the air became clearer and the sky brightened up. We walked right up to the top in thick snow. Every photograph I took is brilliantly bright and perfectly framed.

We drove up to Kandel from St. Peter. Half the adventure was the drive! We didn't get to see any paragliders, but it is a base for them. The views from here were definitely worth the drive up. There are 360 degree views. There were a couple of picnic tables, so if you wanted you could pack a lunch and... More

The Kandel is one of the highest points of the Black Forest and thus gives you a stupendous view of the surrounding darkly wooded ranges of the Black Forest, but sitting at the western edge of the latter, also across the Rhine Valley far below and to the Vosges mountain range across the Rhine and the national border in France....
