This library was originally an older Wal-Mart that was remodeled as a Library. Having been in the field of Architecture most of my working life, I appreciate remodeling a well built useful structure and continuing to use the facility for another life. Who ever redesigned this facility as a library did a remarkable job. Not only is it beautifully done... More

I don't visit the McAllen Public Library that often, but I notice one thing about the space at the entrance. It seems to be a location looking for a suitable occupant. I find it more a place for snacks than a meal.

Even though the building is special and so spacious, what I found to be what I love about the library are the following two things: actual book choices and the online catalog. The online catalog has features that I've not seen at other libraries and one of those features is how many times a particular item has been checked out... More

The library is a treasure in this city. It was built a few years ago and has individual rooms that students can use for study. There are also meeting rooms that can be rented for community events. It is well laid out and is one of the nicest libraries I have seen.

I haven't been to the library in years and boy was I amazed at how they really improved the library, from silent rooms to the computer lab section. It was definitely a peaceful and enjoyable time at the library to read and forget about everything.

This former Walmart has truly become a beautiful addition to the community. MPL delivers on several levels--great place to spend a few hours reading or studying along with great programming for people of all ages. They have a great Summer reading program as well as daily programs for children (babies to teens). We are so happy to have such a... More

The library is a converted Walmart, and is bright, airy, has a ton of space and every year they add more titles. Staff are helpful. The worst part is they tend not to have the most recent titles available. Limited selection of books on DVD. Good genealogy department.

We were intrigued to see what this library was all about, since we heard the building started out as a Walmart store. Very impressive, indeed. The children's section was massive and the main section has some comfortable seating areas, access to computers for sourcing, and more than one help desk manned by a warm body. I really liked the half-level... More
