The battlegrounds are a fairly large park with no playgrounds and only natural landscaping, but plenty of picnic area. There is a birdwatching stand on one end of the park, battle markers detailing important moments from the Battle of San Jacinto, a Monument, a lackluster reflecting pool, and of course, the Battleship Texas. There is a battle reenactment in late... More

One of my favorite places to go and experience Texas history - stand in the exact places that heros from our great State stood while fighting for their independance. Go early in the day before it gets hot or early in Spring/Fall when the weather is more comfortable and bugs are limited. Doing so will give you the opportunity to... More

Everyone has heard about The Alamo, which was a huge defeat for the Texans, but few have heard about the Battle of San Jacinto, which was a victory over the invaiding Mexican Army. More

Beautiful monument. Good history lesson to be had here. The battleship is also there and is great fun to wander around on. Kids can climb all over the gun turrets and go below deck so it is quite entertaining. Nice place to spend a day. Every Texan should go listen to the history slide show. More

This is the site of Texas independence and you can almost hear the sound of brave men fighting and dying. Big Sam Houston seems to be right there under the big tree as Santa Ana is brought to him for complete surrender. A magnificent place! All Texans should come here. More

We started off by having a picnic over at the picnic tables across from the monument. It was extremely windy up there, and when the wind wasn't blowing we were assaulted by mosquitos. I'm kind of wishing we'd saved the picnic for the spots over by the battleship as the wind and mosquitos were not an issue over there. In... More

Our family attended the historic re-enactment and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. There were old-time vendors and a live re-enactment that thrilled our children. More

Travelling from the UK we were relying on our GPS to get us to the monument. We travelled up from Galveston only to find our GPS led us to a sign posted road to the monument that involved taking a car ferry. As we were in a rental car we didn't want to risk that so we didn't make the... More

Historical place and has a nice little museum. And it's free, which is the best part. More
