Join one of Wales' top mine explorers on an exploration of a virtually untouched abandoned Welsh Slate Mine. First worked in 1836 and abandoned by the miners in the early 1970s, more than 130 years of mining history is captured inside waiting to be discovered. It is as if the mine has just closed. Machinery, tools, even the candles and a packet of cigarettes are still in place as the miners left them. Corris Mine Explorers gives you the opportunity to visit these abandoned slate mine workings, to step into the tough working lives of the miners and of past generations. 2 trips to choose from: 1 hour Taster and a 2 hour Mine Explorer Trip. Advance Booking Essential. Corris Mine Explorer trips start from the Corris Craft Centre, Finalist in the National Tourism Awards 2015 for Best Day Out!

The guide (Mark - a one man band?) was brimming with enthusiasm of his subject which made our 2h experience into a very moreish one. Mark has an incredible amount of knowledge about the mine and is one of those people whose knowledge is inspiring. The tour felt miles away from the others in the area (King Arthur) and seemed... I booked on short notice for a 2hr trip. It was the best mine exploration myself and hubby have ever been on ! Mark, or Moley, as he likes to be known, made the experience even better. We pushed ourselves further then what we thought we could have. We loved it so much that we booked again for the next... More

I took my 8 years old son for this exploration and I thoroughly recommend it. We had a brilliant and knowledgeable guide, Mark who is a certified rescuer. We took the hour long tour which takes you into a real but now closed slate mine. No lights so your path is illuminated with your torch and you'll see many artefacts... More

Absolutely brilliant!! We didn't know what to expect from this trip but it was recommended to us by our holiday cottage owner and we are so glad we did it. Mark the guide and his dog, Alfie, are brilliant. It was a very relaxed tour and we were encouraged to ask questions and to say if there was any tunnel... More

Mark responded very quickly to our email about booking and was helpful in getting us on the right trip. We travelled down from Snowdon area and arrived at the Craft Village (definitely not what we were expecting - it was great!) to "check in" and were asked to return 10 mins before our scheduled exploration. Mark was truly excellent in... More

A journey into the past in one of the Corris Slate mines. This is as real as it gets. Experience the darkness and hardship endured by the miners, with expert commentary from a well informed and experienced guide.

What can I say? We've spent the last month traveling around Europe and this tour will be a highlight for us. Mark was an incredibly knowledgeable tour guide who took us through the caves, answering our questions expertly and his passion for his job shone throughout. We were lucky to have Mark take just the two of us around; we... More

We headed to Corris with the intention of going on the king Arthur's Labarynth tour. However on arrival we discovered that due to heavy rain the labarynth was flooded and therefore closed. As an alternative we were offered the mine explorers tour and what an excellent alternative it was! We had an awesome guide in Mark 'The Mole'! He was... More
