For those of us who grew up in the Huntsville area, "State Park" as we call it, has a special place in our lives. Local scout groups have used the park for years, and the pavilion is used often for family reunions, and celebrations of all sorts. Being as close as it is to Houston, the park continues to draw... My children and I went camping in our motorhome for a week here before school started. We LOVED it. We didn't love our campsite because it had an extreme incline. But chalk that up to me learning as this was my first time taking the motorhome out for a real camping trip. But there were several playgrounds. The beach had... More

Very lovely park in the fall, cool, quiet (mid-week), not crowded at all. Trails, canoeing (very fun!), close to Huntsville. However.....would it kill them to put a few signs on those trails? Maybe a couple of arrows - this way, back to camp - that way - to who-the-hell-knows-where???? We got lost in the woods for an impromptu SIX-MILE HIKE!!!!... More

My family has camped at this park for many years. It's a short 3 hour drive from DFW and is just north of Houston. Campsites are very big and shaded in the huge pine trees. We love the hiking/biking trails and lake activities. This is a great park for camping in the Spring and Fall.

This park has miles of hiking/biking trails and a fishing pier. There are alligators in the lake and the squirrels are a real nuisance if you're trying to picnic! We enjoy staying at this park, although in summer it seems very hot because no breeze seems to reach the campground.

Very good park just outside of Houston. Great little lake to watch the alligators(we had a 5-6 footer visit the fishing pier a few times). The 6.8 mile hike is actually 7+ according to our GPS. Probably should have done a shorter one, it seriously challenged us(but we are couch potatoes who are out of shape). Decent sized spots. Like... More

My hubby and I visited this park to have a lovely picnic and to look for some geocaching. We weren't able to fish, but the lake looked beautiful!

Nice Texas State Park, fairly close to Houston. Has some good trails, with a bit of very small hills. Fishing available. Camp sites are a good size. Close to Huntsville which as the Sam Houston Statue and a State Prison museum which make for good side trips. We did see an alligator in the lake this trip, a small one... More

Went to Huntsville park on a Saturday with the family to walk a trail and just enjoy the serene atmosphere. The park is idea for outdoor camping, fishing, biking and exploring trails. The place is well maintained, with awesome lake view. Will recommend this 1.5 hours trip from Houston.

I love the trails here and the park is so beautiful. I have walked them many times with my dog and biked one for the first time today. The one I did was 6.8 miles and goes around the entire lake. The trails are amateur friendly.
