Fun place!

We were there recently for the Rocky Raccoon 100 Mile Trail run. The park is absolute beautiful with the lake and lots of great hiking trails.

We loved this park. We did several of the trails. The Rangers were very helpful and the trails were well maintained and marked. Our map was easy to follow. We loved how you could start on one trail and cut over to other trails. It's laid out well for a short or long hike. The boardwalks were nice too. It... More

Huntsville State Park is a great place to get away. While only about an hour north of Houston, it is well off the beaten path. It offers a variety of day activities as well as camping in all forms from tents to RVs to shelters (2 of which have A/C). Camp spots are on first come first serve basis and... More

Wonderful place to go for camping, hiking, small boating and MTN biking. I personally go her for the MTN biking and the trails are plenty and scenic. People here camp via RVs, campers and tents and they all say great things.

The park was renovated after one of the hurricanes (either Ike or Rita). The spaces are paved, with many that accomodate longer RV's. We stayed at the end of the loop in Prairie Branch section, near the trail head in space 140. It is a nice large space, not too close to other campers. The road was quite busy with... More

The park is not huge but big enough that the hiking trails are not short which I find to be a problem at some state parks. We liked it, it was a cold weekend during non peak time of year so getting a big private camp spot overlooking the lake was no problem. Park is well kept and bathrooms seemed... More

For those of us who grew up in the Huntsville area, "State Park" as we call it, has a special place in our lives. Local scout groups have used the park for years, and the pavilion is used often for family reunions, and celebrations of all sorts. Being as close as it is to Houston, the park continues to draw... My children and I went camping in our motorhome for a week here before school started. We LOVED it. We didn't love our campsite because it had an extreme incline. But chalk that up to me learning as this was my first time taking the motorhome out for a real camping trip. But there were several playgrounds. The beach had... More

Very lovely park in the fall, cool, quiet (mid-week), not crowded at all. Trails, canoeing (very fun!), close to Huntsville. However.....would it kill them to put a few signs on those trails? Maybe a couple of arrows - this way, back to camp - that way - to who-the-hell-knows-where???? We got lost in the woods for an impromptu SIX-MILE HIKE!!!!... More
