I pass by the Sam Houston Statue every time during my drive from Houston to Dallas. I enjoy seeing a historical site that is nicely kept. Its interesting to see how a piece of history still exist!

We visited the statue and continued to the Sam Houston Museum in town. A very nice family visit and Texas history.

This statue is visible several miles before you actually get to it on IH 45. Walking up to it is a real experience as you can see how big it actually is.

They have a nice gift shop, and it's fun to take pictures up close and personal. It's not gonna change your life, and you can do it in 10 minutes including buying a postcard, but if you're along the Huntsville Interstate, it's a fun stop.

We actually stopped at this in July 2010, but we have driven by him many times. The best part about getting up close were the plaques at the base of the statue. Unless you really want to have some pictures of you with the man, then keep on driving.

The best thing about stopping to visit the huge statue, apart from taking a good look up close, is the opportunity to learn a bit about this giant of a man in Texas and U.S. history. Sam Houston is honored in Huntsville because he made his home there at the time of his death in 1863. He would have nothing... More

It's just a big concrete statue. Don't bother. You see it from the highway. The little shop attached to it is tiny.

You pass him- and say you're going to stop next time... before you know it- a year has gone by! :-) A visit (an actual stop) to the statue is well worth the exit off the highway! A quaint little gift shop/museum with bathroom facilities and snacks welcome you... along with super nice staff and very knowledgeable of the history... More
