this statue area is a nice visit for those in a hurry and with kids, its small yet charming and a nice stroll through the woods to get to teh statue, the gift shop is ok too but rather expensive.

Almost missed the turn, otherwise very cool. You can see it really good from the highway on way North out of park.

After passing the statue many times from the highway my family pulled off into the small, sweet park. My son was writting a paper on Sam Houston so we checked out the statue. Very impressive standing at the bottom of the statue. Inside the park is a full size head to stand next to and understand the size. Picnic tables... More

Excellent place to visit and learn a little bit about Texas history. The staff was very friendly and the gift shop was nice. The statue is huge and represents the huge part Sam Houston played in Texas. Nice little wooded area for the visitors center. You can exit I-45 from before you pass the statue or after. Watch the signs,... More

We stopped here on our way to Huntsville State park and glad we did! The staff was very informative and really enjoyed learning about this important figure in Texas History. We were also able to buy a DVD on his life at their gift shop which we really enjoyed! Definitely a great place to visit!

No visit to Huntsville is complete without stopping by to see the Sam Houston Statue. The staff is very friendly and seeing how the statue was built is interesting too. I love the gift shop, there's always great Texas memorabilia.

We could see him coming from over a mile away! Mr. Houston looked like he was standing right in the middle of the interstate.

We took our 3 year old grandson there to pass some time and he enjoyed the lunch we had on the picnic tables. The welcome center has a small gift shop and a large wrap around porch which is nice and reminiscent of old homes. The statue is huge and pretty impressive up close. As stated it is tricky to... Impressive reminder of the great and honorable men responsible for the foundation of our Republic. I recommend the home that Sam Houston inhabited and the area surrounding the campus of Sam Houston University, (my alma mater).

I think the best thing about this enormous statue of ol Sam Houston is that when on I45 going north or south he comes into sight way ahead of time before you even see an exit. Once there its amazing on how large this statue actually is. Not the greatest thing in Texas by far but well worth the quick... More
