Stopped by the statue of Sam Houston on the way to the Sam Houston Museum. Nicely landscaped area complete with picnic tables for you to enjoy your lunch. It is a short walk from the parking lot to the statue. The bathrooms were clean. The young man at the entrance was very helpful and willing to answer any questions you... More

Great place to stop along highway 45. Sam is touted as the second largest freestanding statue in America, bested only by the Statue of Liberty. Nice grounds to enjoy walking with a good museum and gift shop on the grounds. In the gift shop there is a pretty cool animation about the statue that was created by students in the... More

The statue was neat and the kids had fun posing with the statue, but besides the statue, there wan't much else to look at.

You just need to see this. It's a huge testament to a founding g father. You can see it from the highway. But drive to it. You need to drink it all in.

We have been passing this statue of Houston for 20 years. We finally decided to stop and glad we did. This is a free stop with nice restrooms and a teaching moment for the kids. BTW it's a pretty big statue and makes for a great picture.
