Extremely large statue that is visible from the highway. Not too difficult to locate. Enjoyed the walk on the trail to get to it, but would not be readily accessible for someone physically handicapped.

I thought that this was going to be a nice 0.5 mile hike or so. It's just a good place to stretch your legs and see a giant statue of an important person in Texas History.

If you're headed to Huntsville or passing by on I-45, it's a good chance to stretch your legs and get a little taste of Texas. Nice welcome center, helpful people, interesting info about both Sam and the making of the statue, there were lots of kitties for our son to play with when we went. My mother-in-law doesn't get around... More

We only slowed down a bit driving past on the freeway, looks pretty impressive, but based on the reviews here; we did not bother to stop.

Stopped in here because I'm a history nut and a Freemason. There's little here to see except the very large starue of Sam Huston overlooking I-45. There is a welcome center and a giftshop for souveniers. The big draw here is the statue itself. Sam was a big man in life...and in death. He was also a Freemason....very proud to... More

I drove by this twice, recently going to and from Houston. Beautiful impressive statue of a Texas hero visible from I45.

A tourist trap! Admission is free but there's nothing to say except the statue which you can see from the highway. Although it is illegal to park along the highway to view the statue; there's not much to an up close and personal visit except the ability to get a closer view.Suggestion: keep on driving save your time get a... We only saw this from the Northbound I45 but knew it was there so slowed down a bit to look at it. It does indeed look great set in the woods looking out over the freeway. Old Sam looks very impressive as you drive by. By all means, slow down and take a look, but be careful. It's probably not... More

There is a lovely gift shop and information center here at the statue. There are pictures of the construction of the statue, Sam Houston related gifts and souvenirs and clean bathrooms if you stop along your way. There is no fee to enter or explore the grounds. But please DO NOT PARK ON INTERSTATE 45 TO VIEW THE STATUE! There... More
