When you are driving up I-45 around Huntsville, there's an amazing landmark and that is the towering status of General Sam Houston. His presence is as amazing as his role in Texas history and it's wonderful that he has been honored like this.

This is a huge statue of General Sam Houston and a wonderful tribute to his memory. It also marks the beginning of the Sam Houston State University college area.

SAM is larger than life. HE is BIG and I mean BIG. He is a little pale, but that is to be expected..

This is a must-see for anyone visiting this region. Snap a selfie next to Big Sam. Be sure to visit his home downtown.

This statue is so big it reminds me of the old saying that "Everything is big in Texas." Standing nearly 70 feet tall there is absolutely no way you can miss this statue driving Interstate 45 unless you're distracted. It's a site to behold just from driving by and even more so close up. It is worth the visit.

Love this tribute right on I45 that you can stop and enjoy the area and wlak over to the statue or just enjoy it as you drive by on the interstate. Everything really is bigger in Texas.

I've driven by this probably 50 times. Finally decided to stop and glad I did. The grounds are nicely kept and a bit of history too. The giant outdoor checkers made for a fun game, even in the 98 degree heat!

My wife had a sister and husband who lived for years near the Bush International Airport in Aldine that we loved to visit from our homes in the DFW Metroplex. So, we drove down I-45 through Huntsville to enjoy a visit and play some cards. After her husband died, my wife's sister moved south of Huntsville, and we would visit... More

Nice stop on your road trip, whether visiting the Huntsville area exscusively or along the way to somewhere else. Informative gift shop/visitor center with good info on Sam Houston, a distinguished Mason and extremely important contributor to the state of Texas.

You can see The Sam Houston Statue from the highway, But you have to stop and read the history of Sam Houston and the Statue. Standing by it you realize just how high the Statue is.
