My wife had a sister and husband who lived for years near the Bush International Airport in Aldine that we loved to visit from our homes in the DFW Metroplex. So, we drove down I-45 through Huntsville to enjoy a visit and play some cards. After her husband died, my wife's sister moved south of Huntsville, and we would visit... More

Nice stop on your road trip, whether visiting the Huntsville area exscusively or along the way to somewhere else. Informative gift shop/visitor center with good info on Sam Houston, a distinguished Mason and extremely important contributor to the state of Texas.

You can see The Sam Houston Statue from the highway, But you have to stop and read the history of Sam Houston and the Statue. Standing by it you realize just how high the Statue is.

Driving by you would think its just a statue, behind the statue is a park, a path, sculptures, a gift shop, a welcome center, bathrooms, and an entire experience !

The statute of Sam Houston greets Interstate 45 travelers between Houston and Dallas twenty-four hours a day. I spectacular statue that dwarfs many of those in Washington DC. It has easy access off of the IH 45 corridor and you cannot beat the price (free!).

Nice place to take pics and learn about a piece of Texas history.Quiet and relaxing.... Our children like having their picture taken with statue and learning about the construction of it. We went away with a better understanding of who this man was and his importance to Texas.

We finally stopped by the big Sam statute on our trip there while we were visiting my daughter at college. The statue is impressive up close and from far away! Very neat landmark in Huntsville!

This statue sits along I-45. It is quite impressive and at night, it is very well lit and you can't miss it. I was surprised at its dimensions.

If you're in the area, it's worth a side trip to go see the statue. It's very impressive. There's a short wooded path to the statue with picnic tables if you wanted to have a picnic lunch. There's also a visitor's center there, but it was closed due to a recent storm and power outage.

Unfortunately 99.999% of visitors only see this statue from the highway. DO NOT PARK ON THE INTERSTATE. Take the next exit and park safely in the parking lot. Not only is it dangerous to park on the interstate, but you can be ticketed. Museum is interesting and the grounds around the statue are always nicely manicured. It's a great break... More
