We recently visited the Houston Zoo with our children, ages 8, 14 and 16. We got a late start but that was okay because the lines were not long. They have so many different animals and a really fun children's area. The indoor reptile exhibit was also neat and a way to cool off. It is definitely a whole day... more

My 2 years old love it! All animals come alive from books. Elephant, Giraffe, Hipo, Lion, Tiger, Seal and much more. They also have a petting area for children to comb goat's hair. Wild life carousel is fun.But it's better to go after 4:00pm to avoid the heat. Zoo closes at 7:00pm. 3 hrs is enough for us. If you... more

Our family went to the Houston Zoo this past week. The zoo was awesome! The animals seemed comfortable and were easily viewable!! The landscaping was beautiful with some of the biggest bamboo we ever saw. The animal habitats were so very well done and the animals looked cozy and at home! They were easy to see and sometimes sooooo close... more

The Houston Zoo is a wonderful place to take your family on the weekends, especially on Sundays when admission is FREE. It does get hot in the Houston heat but if you go on a cool day there is so much to see and do there. I often go to the zoo and spend hours and hours walking around and... more

Depends on what day you go. DO NOT GO WHEN IT'S FREE!! That's when it is full of ignorant people and they trash the zoo and run over kids. UGH. I'd rather go on a regular day and it is just beautiful!! I haven't been able to see ALL the animals in one trip because I get tired. I love... more

This place has gotten huge. There are dozens of new exhibits just in the last five years many directed towards children. This is by far the best zoo I've ever been to. The animals are well tended and have tons of room. They are truly the stars of the show. Take sunscreen, stow some drinks of your own and some... more

This is our 2nd time visiting the houston zoo. We LOVE zoos, and have been to many all over the country. It makes us feel good to help the zoos out and see endangered species thriving....BUT! We went almost 2 years ago and it just 2 days ago and both times there was major construction goin on the whole day!... more

We live just outside of Houston, in Friendswood. I take my 8 year old homeschool son to the zoo at least twice a year. Through my adult years I have visited better zoos it's true. Of course, San Diego and San Antonio are incredible. BUT I find that Houston's zoo has tried to improve as much as possible when they... more

April 2, 2008 I toured with a preteen in a wheelchair who could see NOTHING because the entire facility is constructed with no reference to state of the art zoo design per guest experience. You have got to be kidding! The richest oil city in the world hosts a zoo that looks like a dark/drab animal corral in deep East... more

We went to the Houston Zoo over Spring Break and it is by far the worst zoo experience I've ever had. It was not kept clean at all, the landscaping looked like they had fired their maintenance staff because their were weeds everywhere. It was really dirty, I was afraid to touch anything, and , yes, I realize it is... more
