TXBohemian has been going to the Houston Zoo for over 40 years. In the last few years it has become a premier, first class attraction that is reasonably priced. Read the other Tripadvisors reviews and go to the Houston Zoo website for daily events. GO EARLY, before the zoo opens to get an upclose parking spot and avoid the traffic/crowds.... More

Huge zoo! It will take some time for you to go through all of it. Spend a whole day there. Plenty of places to eat.

The Houston Zoo has just opened the newest part of the African Forest and it is a two acre sanctuary for African Gorillas. There are three males out and then they switch with a Mother, Father, child and older female Gorilla. A MUST SEE!

I went there on ticket-free day, and spent almost a whole afternoon. Although the weather is hot and many big animals seemed to be listless, there were some interesting houses. You could watch disgusting insects, bats, etc.

Enjoyed the diverse range of animals, excellent enclosures, helpful, knowledgeable personnel. Lots to see, also lots of ground to cover- they do have wagon and stroller rentals. It got kind of hot (it is Houston :) ) grateful for the randomly placed misting spigots. (Literally like a shower head on a tall post that mists you with water as you... More

I'm biased because I compare all Zoo's to San Diego Zoo ... But I have to say The Houston Zoo is a very good Zoo and is everything one would expect of a major US metro area zoo. I give it 4 stars and not 5 only because 5 is what I rated the Zoo in San Diego - probably... More

I went there with my mom, little brother and my daughter. We had a nice time, the zoo was a very relaxing place to just get together with kids and see animals and other sights :) It was quite lovely. My little brother (age 9) had fun in the spray mists... As the day was a bit warm. I loved... More

The Houston Zoo is outstanding. I loved it when my children were young and love it even more as I get to experience it all over again with my grandchildren. There have been some wonderful improvements and renovations over the years, the most recent being a new state of the art gorilla habitat that houses 7 Western Lowland Gorillas, set... More
