Very impressive collection, well presented. Have been to a few of their 'special shows' and have always come away learing something new and exciting.

Wonderful exhibit space - well lit and with good displays. Two buildings joined by underground walkway.
I have been a slow convert to the fine arts, but truly enjoy our visits to MFAH. Many of the historically great artists are represented and I am always blown away with the statuary in the beginning.
1) Great to see a painting by Van Gogh, Rembrant, Monet right here in town.
2)Small enough to be doable, instead of a...

I have visited many times and always enjoy the exhibits. There is a wide variety, some permanent and many that rotate in and out. I especially like the impressionist works they often have, as well as some of the classics just prior (timewise). I am NOT an art expert, but I know what I like and they have plenty of...

We were fortunate to visit while the excellent Picasso Black and White exhibition was on and were able to take our time with the viewing without the crowds that we experience in major museums elsewhere, particularly in London and New York.

I wasn't in lovee with the black and white Picasso paintings, but the audio tour was awesome and made it very interesting. I'd definitely recommend opting for the audio.
Beautiful museums, with a splendid permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. I had the chance to visit Picasso Black and White i missed in NYC. Good tip: if you have a Bank of America Card, the entrance is free.
Located in Houston's famous Museum District, just south of downtown, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts is a large museum consisting of two separate buildings. The museum offers a nice size collection of three- dimensional art and paintings, as well as a research library, theater, classrooms, gift shop, and more.
I have visited dozens of art museums over the years...

However, the selection is a bit small as they only have 1 or 2 of each artist rather than multiples (with a few exceptions such as Remington). But this is not unexpected nor can they be faulted as the museum is on a much...

It is hard not to compare other art museums to the expansive National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. But although the Houston Museum of Fine Art is much smaller, it has a nice collection of American and European art from various periods. There was also a docent in one of the galleries explaining how artists mixed their colors from...
