Loved this production! We didn't eat before the show, and decided to grab something at the intermission... bad idea - best to just have a glass of wine or something sparkly so you can savour at a more humane pace ...instead of rushing through (a very yummy) meal... not a lot of time, and we did pre-order. In any case...... More

We have traveled to Houston to attend the opera three times and have never been disappointed. Its always a wonderful experience at the Wortham Center. Great art and great space combined. Excellence like this doesn't happen by accident and everything and everyone from the moment you enter the hall until the moment the curtain falls is committed to making your... More

Saw Riverboat 7th row center. Great sound, excellent lighting and was thoroughly entertained the entire time. HGO is doing a great job of bringing entertaining works to Houston arts and entertainment patrons.

In two visits to Houston over the past 16 months I have seen 3 performances from a company that should be proud of their achievements. Strong Musical Director, Orchestra, chorus and production teams -all combine to do justice to some great musical works for the theater. I've enjoyed The Passenger, Sweeney Todd and Die Walkure there. HGO attracts quality singers... More

We scored some tickets to Die Walkure from a family member who could not attend. Although this was our first opera (and albeit a tough one to cut your teeth on) we really enjoyed the performance. HGO puts on a great show and the Wortham is a great facility to see the Opera at. We highly recommend trying the opera.... More

HGO is not just a national treasure, it's a world-class operation. Take the family, and introduce everyone to wonderful opera performances. If you do go, please make it a total experience by going early, to the "pre-performance introduction", usually held 45 minutes before scheduled curtain, and, when offered, the "meet the cast" discussions held in the Green Room after. The... More

Thank goodness for the HGO...other than the Met (especially Live in HD), what is there in the US? (Okay, Santa Fe has a nice summer festival and San Fransisco isn't bad, but...). Even the ticket prices are reasonable, given what you are experiencing. The only drawback is that there seems to be A LOT of coughing for no apparent reason;... More

First of all, let me admit that I am somewhat biased. I have been attending HGO performances for over 40 years and have seen the company grow from regional to truly international. Over the years, have been treated to so many memorable artists and productions…the world premiere of Nixon in China, Robert Wilson's Parsifal, Sutherland, Sills, Freni, Domingo, Fleming, Bartoli,... Did a double header weekend with HGO and HSO. Also a first trip to Houston. I came over from New Orleans because it is so "close" - I was searching for high quality arts (sorry Nawlins, you have jazz but fine art is not your thing). I was not disappointed in Houston. HGO did a delicate and humorous version of... More

We've been long-time season ticket holders. The availability of a nice, professional, high quality dinner service has been an important development for HGO. We enjoy the selection and the quality of the food, the service and the availability of quality wines. Elegant Cafe also lets you bring your own wine for a minimal corking fee. Great service, perfect before a... More
