This is one of the few remaining "dance halls" in Texas. On first glance the place looks honky tonk with draft walls, if walls at all, and dim lighting. But who cares? The music is great and the place rocks! Go there at least once!

Since our vacation was already packed with things to do, we didn't get to fit in a night to check out the nightly entertainment. It would have been nice. Maybe next time. We just toured the place and got a few pictures. It was cool to see some history. I enjoyed my short but sweet visit here.

Texas' oldest Dance Hall, located northwest of San Antonio, TX outside New Braunfels in Gruene.
The place is historic, has retained it's elderly stature by not being fixed up with modern plastic or fancy bling. It is simply an old saloon hall, complete with crooked bar, plank floors, hand made tables and benches, lit by bare light bulbs, cooled by...

This event was absolutely fabulous from start to finish! Jerry Jeff started playing at 7 and finished at 9....no opening act, no break. It was so much fun! We all sang along and danced by our chairs!

Atmosphere, atmosphere, great live music, local color and cold beer! What a great intimate venue to experience music and watching couples two step around the dance floor.

Really cool place to see live music and enjoy a cold long-neck beer. Crowds galore on the weekends in Gruene but still a great way to spend an afternoon or evening.

Go to Gruene if you are visiting San Antonio or the surrounding area. I was told part of John Travolta's movie, "Michael" was filmed here. Lots of quaint shops and make sure you have lunch at the Gristmill.

Had an awesome time here, listening to a great Texas Country band, drinking a Lone Star beer, and just enjoying the atmosphere of the "oldest dance hall in Texas". Bring cash! Not upscale... But you haven't experienced Texas until you've been to Gruene Hall.
