I'm not a country music fan....and I'm from Texas LOL....but it's a must see if you go to Gruene. It's full of character and history.
Gruene Hall is billed as Texas' oldest dance hall. It still has live music every night, sometimes locals, sometimes really big stars. We got tickets for a Saturday night dance/concert by Joe Ely, and it was incredible. Joe is a country legend, and he had a superb four piece band. Imagine this. You're sitting, or standing listing to country rock,... More
The Hall is a country music history lesson. The back part of the Hall is a dance hall with bands playing all day. In the front part is the bar with pictures of all the famous people who played there and where a lot of them got their 'break'. George Strait started there. Pictures and articles about Gruene Hall and... More
I'm from Virginia and my husband is a native Texan. Every time we visit his family we stop in Gruene, do some shopping, have wine at the Grapevine, dinner at the Gristmill, and dance at Gruene Hall. Amazing experience every time!!! Don't miss it!!'
My wife and I were with in-laws on a tour of the Texas Hill Country. This was not the first time we had been to Gruene Hall. When we went inside, it wasn't crowded, and a band had just finished a set, so there wasn't any music. I ordered a beer and marveled at how rustic the place is. I... More
We were fortunate enough to see Jerry Jeff Walker here and while this place is really, truly, nothing special, but it's a lot of fun and a great place to see music legends perform up close and personal. Be prepared to wait in line outside for whatever show you have tickets for, bring a chair, a cooler and get to... More
Everyone knows Gruene Hall is the oldest dance hall in Texas and that alone deserves a 4 star rating and if your in Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, or anywhere within 100 miles its a must do. My bet is it will be one of the highlights of your vacation. The only reason I did not give this five stars... More
Just part of what makes this historic little town on the Guadalupe River interesting. It is next door to the Grist Mill Restaurant, and is part of the setting for the annual Turkey Trot 5K run.
This was not my first visit to Gruene Hall, but it was my husbands. He was fascinated by all the dancers, of every age, shape and ability. The music is truly ALWAYS great....the folks that perform give it their all. What a treasure to find this place still standing, providing all who come to enjoy.....whether a tourist, a baby just... One of the coolest places I have been. Awesome to watch all of the great dancers, and listen to the live music. The Georges were plyaing the night we were there. Wish we could have stayed longer.
