Once a year, usually in early-to-late spring, we fly into Austin, TX, rent an SUV, load it up with vittles and beer and road trip throughout the Texas Hill Country (I even wrote a song about it). We make sure to hit our usual haunts, like Albert (Pop. 4), Riley's, Luckenbach and Gruene, where we try to coincide our visit... More

Okay Gruene Hall is old and it shows its age. This is more of a nostalgia pick. There are tons of pictures of big name country stars playing here before they made it big. Gruene Hall still has musical acts performing daily. While they may not all be amazing, I enjoyed myself and the atmosphere is nice and friendly. Plenty... More

This was my first trip to Greune and my traveling companions insisted on visiting the legendary Greune Hall. I am giving this a very good instead of average only because there is obviously someone who sometimes books good music like the afternoon I visited. The place is interesting. We went in mid afternoon on a Saturday and the Hall had... More

This was not my first trip to visit Gruene Hall. The last time I visited in the day. This time I went on a saturday night with a live band. Now that I am a "regular", I want to tell you this is so much more fun at night. It is a family event. Kids of all ages. There was... More

This place gives you a great look at how the hall dances have been for years. Spend some time in a place that has not changed and has had some great musical groups. Also for the movie buff this was where scenes of the Michael was filmed. Try a few of your own steps.

First, I must admit I'm not much of a fan of country music. HOWEVER, if you are in the San Antonio area, love all kinds of music, and want to experience well-performed classic Texas country music by passionate and talented artists in a building dripping in Americana, you MUST see this place. You may choose to dance if the music... More

Always a great time at Gruene Hall! There for Charlie Robison Birthday Bash on August 31 and it was incredible show. Gruene Hall is everything you would expect from a Tx honky tonk/dance hall! Rustic and lots of character. with a great outdoor area to just chill and visit with friends/family. Underage allowed. Be sure to bring cash as they... More
