This place gives you a great look at how the hall dances have been for years. Spend some time in a place that has not changed and has had some great musical groups. Also for the movie buff this was where scenes of the Michael was filmed. Try a few of your own steps.

First, I must admit I'm not much of a fan of country music. HOWEVER, if you are in the San Antonio area, love all kinds of music, and want to experience well-performed classic Texas country music by passionate and talented artists in a building dripping in Americana, you MUST see this place. You may choose to dance if the music... More

Always a great time at Gruene Hall! There for Charlie Robison Birthday Bash on August 31 and it was incredible show. Gruene Hall is everything you would expect from a Tx honky tonk/dance hall! Rustic and lots of character. with a great outdoor area to just chill and visit with friends/family. Underage allowed. Be sure to bring cash as they... More

This is a nice stop to say you saw the oldest dance hall in Texas with live music at no charge or obligation to buy a drink for week day evenings. They have a small charge on the weekends when a better know band is there.

Most (country) singer or musician have ever performed in this dance hall. It's the oldest dance hall in Texas. John Travolta's was dancing in this hall in his film "Michael". There is live music every evening that usually for free except for artist with the big name, you have to pay the entrance. The atmosphere is very comfortable. Friendly people... More

Gruene Hall is a huge open barn-like structure with wood floors. There is a stage at one end that has seen the likes of many famous bands & singers. Just inside the front is a bar that serves food. We didn't eat or drink here, just passed thru on our way to eat at Gris Mill. Worth the stop to... More

We have been to several free shows here, and have always had a great time. It is casual, comfortable (except for the wooden benches after a couple of hours) and conducive to enjoyment. There is no air conditioning to speak of so if the open screened sides don't get a breeze it is warm. Folks gather outside too and people... More
