Imagine a theater built where every seat can hear every word from every actor on the stage. This is the Grand 1894 Opera House. Built before fancy sound systems and microphones, the Opera House provides entertainment with an Old World, vintage charm that cannot be beat. I been there to see the Galveston Symphony, I have sat in different seats... More

Saw the Irish Tenors there in December. The perfect venue for some Old World music. Every seat feels like a front row seat.

Went to a Christmas Show of Manhatten Transfer and totally enjoyed the historic building as well as the entertainers. We set pretty far back but still had wonderful seats.

The restored (several times including after hurricane Ike) Opera House is in a good neighborhood downtown surrounded by excellent restaurants and various bars. It is a small venue with great acoustics and a perfect place to see and hear the national acts that are booked there. They book very good acts. We went to the Robert Earl Keen, Jr. Show... More

2 warm up acts start at 8 and not very good. A 1940"s swing band seemed like a last minute addition. Keen takes stage at 9:15 and departs at 9:25. Reappears at 9:40 minus shirt, coat, socks and shoes and blames it on a tech glitch. I doubt it. Set transitions seemed sophomoric. Opera House Should vet performers closer.

I love the old theater. They have done a great job redoing it. It is nice to have a more intimate setting once in a while. We enjoy driving down for the day from Houston, having some time on the strand, a lovely seafood dinner, and a delightful show at the Grand.

it costs two bucks to walk around. there is no tour or tour guide but they let you wander about as long as you stay off the stage. btu liike i said, its only two dollars.the renovation was well doneand i think it lends itself very well to to a modern performance - just wish we could have seen one.... Excellent venue, great concert, easy walking distance to the Tremont hotel and Salt Water grill. Three tenors were wonderful. Second time we have heard them as a group. And once each individually.

We attend performances at the Grand 1894 Opera House an average of four times each year. The talent that performs here is outstanding. In the past year, we have seen The Beach Boys, Johnny Mathis, Peter Noone, The Midtown Men (from The Jersey Boys) and the Three Irish Tenors. Simply marvelous. A tip for those on a budget. For musical... More

Definitely a step back in time to the opulent past. Beautiful restoration with great acoustics for a more intimate concert venue (Lyle Lovett was great). Apparently audiences in the 1890's were shorter and thinner than today's audience as the seating is really confined, particularly leg room. Would definitely recommend to attend a concert or performance at the Opera House if... More
