We paid to park there one summer, decided to walk down the beach to see the sunset, came back only a few minutes past 8pm (their closing time), and found that our car was already hooked up to a tow truck! We had to pay $150 to unhook it. The parking lot was full of police and tow trucks. They... More

This is the only privately owned beach on the Texas Coast. All other beach is owned by the State of Texas, but the Porretto's can trace the ownership back to a Spanish Land Grant, predating the Laws of the State of Texas, or the Republic of Texas. That said, the current owners have really done a lot of work to... More

Parking fee was $8, only public beach that you can come and go as you please and not repay for entry. Umbrella was $20, $40 if you want the chairs. Sea weed was not that big of a problem on the shore. Whole Gulf Coast has sea weed. Clean and gorgeous.

Visited this beach upon recommendations from this website. The location was nice but there was so much seaweed that it detracted from the atmosphere. The public beach across from our hotel had been cleaned during the night but Porretto was not. The entrance fee is $8 which was fine because it's an all day pass. However the rental fee for... More

First I have to say the seaweed is very bad this year. That is not the fault of this place it is nature. I was told that they are getting the seaweed cleaned up next week My wife, son, and I enjoyed this beach Pros: 1. People that work here are great 2. You only pay once for all day... More

Anyways the title pretty much sums it all up. My wife and I moved to Houston a few years back from Michigan. Well since its pretty much cold all the time up north, we were excited to find out about Galveston Island for some fun in the sun. Well we came across Stewart Beach, which is right next door to... We must be the only people on the planet without a cellphone. We couldn't use the paybyphone option, so we decided that we wouldn't take the chance of getting towed. We parked on a side street and walked the two blocks. No problem. I think the foggy weather put a damper on our experience of Galveston beach...we weren't overly impressed... More

Hubby and I went to the Galveston sand -Crab race- at night at Porretto Beach. Other than poor lighting, the beach was nice. Parking on the beach was 10.00 after 6pm parking on the street is free. NOTE: Galveston has gone to a paybyphone parking on the seawall. It is 1.00 an hour with max 8.00 per day. And if... More
