We must be the only people on the planet without a cellphone. We couldn't use the paybyphone option, so we decided that we wouldn't take the chance of getting towed. We parked on a side street and walked the two blocks. No problem. I think the foggy weather put a damper on our experience of Galveston beach...we weren't overly impressed... More

Hubby and I went to the Galveston sand -Crab race- at night at Porretto Beach. Other than poor lighting, the beach was nice. Parking on the beach was 10.00 after 6pm parking on the street is free. NOTE: Galveston has gone to a paybyphone parking on the seawall. It is 1.00 an hour with max 8.00 per day. And if... More

We paid to park at this beach. We were towed 2 minutes after it closed. We paid 125 bucks for the car to be unchained. Three other cars were being towed at the same time. Plenty of police were there to make sure no one got out of hand as they were towing the cars. We tried to get help... More

We normally don't go to the pay beaches but decided to give this one a try. This beach was dirtier and more disgusting than any public beach in Galveston. There were no amenities besides some overfilled and dirty port-a-potties, a chair and umbrella was $40 ($30 next door at Stewart Beach), so much litter on the beach I can't imagine... More

Great place to for family fun. Come here every summer! Family oriented, life guard on duty, clean beaches, and room to play football soccer and volleyball.

Went there today b/c the island was packed. Sea weed everywhere, bags and litter on the beach. $40 for beach chairs and umbrella. If you bring your own tent you have to pay $10 aside from the entrance fees for "liability" purposes. Overall it was dirty. Save your money and go down the street to another beach.

Galveston does not have white sand or blue water, so any of the beaches are pretty much the same so..............After spending 4 different spring breaks down in Galveston. I will have to comment on Poretto Beach. It is a great non-crowded private beach with some of the best folks working it. You can park right down on the beach and... More

First, it was October, so the beaches were deserted. The weather was 85 degrees and we had the beach almost to ourselves, but there was a lifeguard on duty. There was free parking easily available. No umbrella or chair stands because the season was over. The beach itself was littered and the water muddy, but the kids enjoyed it. Would... More

We only had the afternoon, so we just sat on the beach. It was not that crowded for a Sunday afternoon. However, the city needs to clean up the seaweed! It is a common complaint. There are no bathroom facilities. Texas needs a good beach!

I was there memorial day and i have never seen so much seaweed piled up on the beach anywhere. i took into consideration the positive reviews from this very website but i think they are so misleading and probably entered by Poretto beach staff. For a private beach they sure dont care much about cleaning the seaweed at all and... More
