A visit here will cost $10.00. This money is used for upkeep of this historical building. Our guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the home and its former occupants. It was very evident that she had great respect for the family and also for the home's last occupant, the bishop. That was appreciated by myself, This home cost between... more

The only bad thing I have to say about this attraction is that the other people in our tour group brought small children and it really ruined our tour. This is a very old home and everything in it is priceless and fragile. There were four children between 2 and 5 on this tour, and they were horribly bored, since... more

Nicholas Clayton built this intimidating facade for a rich victorian family in the late 1800's. Later it became property of the Archdiocese of Galveston and still belongs to the church. These days it thrills the mind to wander these halls and try to imagine what life was like for those types of people back then. It cost the Grisham's an... more

The Bishop's Palace is interesting, ornate, and rich with history. It basically has two separate chapters: One with a family living it in and then later, with the Catholic Church. Of mention that I haven't seen in other reviews is the innovation of both the builder and the family. The builder created shutters inside the home that fold into the... more

This was my husband favorite historical house (mine was Ashton Villa). This was a nice mansion, had some very beautiful features. In all the homes we toured, I didn't feel that any of the tour guides were anxious for a tip but we felt it in this one. Our first guide was very good but he seem to expect a... more

Bishop's Palace is OK as far as old homes go. It is exactly that -- an old home. The outside looks better than the inside. The inside could have been a movie set for a horror movie. No offense to the Catholic Bishops and previous owners. Old gothic type houses are small, dark, and creepy. One of the volunteer ladies... more

One of the most magnificent homes I've ever toured! The majestic staircase with it's stained glass windows is surpurb. Most beautiful fireplaces in any home. Very historical and well preserved. A very good tour at a very reasonable price. more

Out of everything we did for our weekend in Galveston, The Bishops Palace was by far the best and cheapest. It was so beautiful and the tour guides did a great job of explaining the history of the home. Most of the furnishings are original. The only thing I wish we could have done is go to the top floor.... more

i purchased the "broadway beauties" tour package in galveston for $15 - it included a tour of ashton villa, the moody mansion, and the bishop's palace. the ashton villa tour i found the most intriguing, but the bishop's palace was by far my favorite structure. it's one of the most beautiful buildings i've ever seen, and i'd put it on... more

We visited Bishop's Palace in December 2004 and it was very enjoyable. If you like to tour old homes, then you would definitely enjoy this. The castle is constructed and furnished with exquisite materials and an attention to detail that you do not see in today's homes. We visited the Moody Mansion as well, and if you have time for... more
