a great day trip or more if you wish. If you are sure of foot, take the trail up the Rock and down (but you better be part mountain goat and hope the rock is not slippery). Be ready for the crowds too, this is a popular trek. Or, take the loop or off-the-beaten path trails...a bit less taxing but... more

Enchanted rock is a stupendous 500' rock dome North of Fredericksburg, estimated to be over 1 billion years old. It is a fun and not particularly difficult climb to the top for someone in reasonably good condition. Once on the rock there is no actual trail and the truly hardy can just go straight up. We did switchbacks on the... more

If you can't make it to Australia to see Ayers Rock, then this is the next best thing. Enchanted Rock is almost 2000 feet above sea level. A friend and I drove there from San Antonio and hiked around the base before hiking to the top. It was really worth the trip and effort as one has a really great... more

My husband and I are in our thirties- and Vala the German Shepherd Dog is three:) We left for enchanted rock prepared- with a backpack with water, power bars, bug spray, sunscreen, plastic bags for dog poo, hats, and a towel (in case the rock got too hot for Vala's paws- she could stand on it- but she was fine.)... more

What is an enchanted rock anyway? When I think of a rock, I think of a small grayish chunk of stone. Declaring the stone enchanted brings about a different vision. The first time I saw the Enchanted Rock, I thought it was just a large...no, a humongous smooth rock that demanded my attention and begged to be climbed. What was... more

I did not plan on hiking 4 1/2 miles that day, nor did I plan on braving gusting winds (they must have been over 50 mph up there), but I did and I had a wonderful time. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen, because you will not be in the shade on this adventure. I had a wonderful time and... more

My husband and I climbed the rock, I would recommend you take the longer route if you are older or not in shape, The View was beautiful from the top. We were in a hurry so we took the shortest route. It was hot that day and I wished we would have taken an easier path (You are given options).... more

My husband and I went to climb the rock on our anniversary. We have never done anything like this before. I am 29 and he is 31 and in decent shape. From below it looks very high and hard to climb but it wasn't. It is hard on your knees so anyone who does not have a great set of... more
