White Rock lake is definitely a treasure to Dallas. It is about 5 miles north, north east of downtown. The Dallas marathon is actually called the White Rock marathon and runs from downtown up to the lake, around the lake, and back. I lived by the lake for 15 years, and rode my bike around it thousands of times. For bike racers, it's a great place to train (despite being flat). One lap is about 10 miles, and there are often other fast cyclists to ride with especially on the west side in the early morning and after 5pm on week days... more
