This was one of the best day hikes we have done in a long time. The trail is 3 miles to get to the Light House (6 miles round trip) but it's the last 3/10 of a mile to the Light House that is tricky. There is 300 foot elevation gain to get to the actual light house. Strollers are... More

Take a camera, you'll take a ton of photos, every turn brings a new view or vista or rock formation to surprise and delight. Take your trash back with you, please don't litter!

If you hike the Lighthouse Trail, please allow 1/2 day. Bring a snack, a hiking stick and plenty of water. It was very hot, 115 degrees, so you plenty of water.

This is a well marked, easy to hike 6 mile trail. Even in November, it is a good idea to bring some water along. It's busy, particularly at the start, and is used by both mountain bikers and hikers (also horses, tho we saw none of those on the day we hiked). Probably a three season hike; I imagine summer... not difficult, but 6 miles might be a long for some. Some scrambling the last bit, but worth the scramble! Veiws are awesome OF the lighthouse and awesome views FROM the lighthouse. Spent 3 and 1/2 hours hiking it-- lots of stops for photos! lol

We biked/hiked the trail and it was nice, the view from the top was good, a little bit of a scramble at the end but worth it if you are able.

I found this an easy and pleasant trail with great views. It wasn't crowded when we were there in November. It would be nice if the park would develop a few more trails such as this one. Too many are easy and sandy trails along the floor of the canyon

The Lighthouse Trail will take you to the most iconic structure in Palo Duro Canyon. In the spring and fall, it is a great 6-mile round trip hike. However, be very careful hiking this in the summer. The base of the canyon can get up to 120 degrees. You must start by 8:00 a.m. if you are hiking this trail... More

It is a bit of a steep climb. Some people have recommended to elderly people and im not sure how some of them could go all the way to the top. For the average active person, you will have no problem.

I've done this trail twice now over the last few years. There isn't a lot of shade, so especially if it is sunny and hot you'll want to make sure you have plenty of water and maybe even some food if you are the lightheaded type. Dehydration has occured to people hiking this trail in the past, so just be... More
