It tells the history of Bastrop which is very interesting. It also has some interactive films and the one I especially was interested in was the fire exhibit. It was very sad to see the vast area that the fire consumed. It will take years to replant all the pine trees. Well worth a trip to learn the history of... More

We stopped by on a rainy Sunday. The attendant at the front desk was very helpful. They had many brochures and maps that you could pick up. There was even a small museum on site that offered a look at history of the area.

Unfortunately, the museum was closed to add new exhibits when we visited, but we did get to see Bastrop's first fire truck and chat with a delightful and knowledgeable volunteer at the Visitor Center. This should be your first stop in the historic downtown district!

Definately worth visiting, displays are pretty good and do a good job displaying the Interesting history of the area. We checked out a quilt show which was a temporary display. I want to go back sometime when I have a little more time.

The Museum and Visitors Center is a work in progress, with new exhibit items added as time and resources permit. The exhibits that are in the museum provide considerable information about Bastrop County's history. The volunteer docent with whom I interacted was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. She made several suggestions for future visits with my wife. This is a great... More

We arrived here late in the afternoon - interesting exhibits about Bastrop's history and more recent events. They also didn't seem to mind our teenage son bashing out "chopsticks" on the piano.
