We were looking for a short drive after our horseback ride and decided on Foothills a Parkway. Very pleasant drive.....the walk up Look Rock was nice and easy and the view from the top was spectacular! 360 degree view ..... If you're on this side of the Smokies, it's worth the time. We were staying in Townsend and decided to go check out the foothills parkway which is about 6 miles or so away. Nice peaceful drive up to Look Rock,, some pulloffs along the way. Best view is at the top at Look Rock. As previously said by another reviewer, the parking lot area where there is a viewing area is... More

From Townsend it is a short ride to this short scenic drive on the other side of Smoky Mountains. Very quiet with very little traffic and some great overlooks. This was a peaceful drive away from all the normal touristy bits. Heading back towards Cherokee it takes you to the 129 but that's another story.

The lesser traveled roadways make enjoying the breathtaking scenes much more enjoyable and perhaps the highlight of the Parkway is a stop at Look Rock. From the tower you get an unforgetable view of the park in one direction and a totally mesmerizing drop-away view of the valleys and towns in the other.

A great ride if you want to get away from the traffic inside the park - spectacular views and it leads to the Tail of the Dragon if you're feeling adventurous!

We stayed in Cherokee, NC on our trip to ride the smokey Mountain roads. This was a last minute choice to ride back to Cherokee after riding through Deal's Gap on route 129, the Tail of the Dragon. The road is in good condition with lots of elevation change and plenty of curves. The views are magnificent. Continue on to... More

Parkway may be a little hyperbole in the case of this road. A quaint, and leisurely paced 2 lane paved rural backroad with charming scenic outlooks through postcard perfect hills may be verbose but more accurate. Be sure to stop at the scenic outlooks and take a picture. Entrance at BOTH ends to this "parkway" is not well signed and... More

Some of the best views. Drove across on our way to 129 on the motorcycle and will be going back on the next visit

I was so impressed by the views and pull offs for picture taking. Not to mention a glance out the window will literally take your breath... We found this using directions to rafting company. Several of the places we visited took us around city congestion/traffic and led us on beautiful separate experiences. Very impressive. Loved the "short cuts" trip advisor... More
