It is so easy to get caught up in the shopping and the entertainment, not to mention the food, when visiting the Smokies. Foothills Parkway is one finished part of a bigger unfinished, and I fear forgotten, road system. Don't miss this part of the Foothills Parkway accessible from either end at Walland, TN US-321 or Chilhowee Lake at US-129.... More

My husband and I just moved to Knoxville so we've been exploring the area. This is a quiet drive and nice, but didn't feel it was as pretty as going into the Smokies. It's not a long drive, but we preferred the national park scenery better. If you want a quiet short more open drive this is it!

Beautiful scenery, great roads, lots of great roads to ride on the motorcycle and beautiful lakes make for great fishing too. If you're looking for peaceful rest and relaxation, this is the place!

Been down the Foothills Parkway 7 times. 4 times on my motorcycle and 3 times in a car. Going to and from the Dragons Tail. Little sports cars of course. Great piece of pavement.

Morning is great, with the mist rising from the valley. Springtime is especially nice to take in the scenery.

Wonderful road over the foothills mountains ... perhaps the best place in the Smokies for a sunrise photograph. (no dead hemlocks in the image like you will get at Newfound Gap or Clingman's Dome. Roads ends at Chilhowee Lake .... Nice views there too ... Connects with the "Tale of the Dragon" highway (U.S. 129)

The Foothills Parkway is a wonderful, less-traveled scenic roadway. There are breathtaking views usually along both sides of the road with plenty of pull offs where you can stretch your legs and take photos. Lookout Rock is a great alternative to the often overcrowded Clingman's Dome area. You can see many miles from Lookout Rock and it is a beautiful... More

this short drive has some great overlooks, but it all depends on the weather, and the time of year that you drive it. it does make a good cut through if your heading over to cataloochee for the day...

What views of the mountains and the flat side of Maryville, Alcoa, etc. At the end of the road is a wonderful lake (Chilhowee, I think). Also, Abrams Creek is great for kayaking, as is the lake on calm days. There is also a nice hike up to Look Rock tower.

Breath taking views. Wonderful motorcycle ride. Water on one side of the mountain and a beautiful vally on the other side.
