Description: Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville...
Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome. Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

This was part of a Total Access Pass purchase. Was interesting to hear about the history of Tennessee and the connection to thoroughbred horse breeding. Plan on spending about 1.5 hours here.

I liked the tour guide. She was sweet and had a GREAT accent. The mansion was ok...but only about 30 % was original furniture...etc. There was also a great wine tasting afterwards.

A costumed tour guide takes you around the house and grounds. The rooms were nicely furnished and the grounds well kept (though small). Our tour guide was Genevieve and she was very nice and knowledgable. The tour isn't very long (around 45 minutes), but the house is air conditioned, so if you get cold easily, bring a cardigan. At the... More

I love touring big old homes - it's kind of an addiction, one I've fed plenty of times. Belle Meade was a nice addition but probably ranks only in the middle of all the places I've toured. The plantation, just south of Nashville, was built about 200 years ago by a local family that got into horse raising and racing.... More

I only had a few hours to spend in Nashville so I went to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Belle Meade Plantation. Bummed out after my lackluster tour of the Museum I decided to take a chance on Belle Meade. I was surprised to find out that the $16 admission fee was waved completely for military members! I... One of the first things I did in Nashville. The Harding family raised thoroughbred horses, and it was amazing to learn that so many of the modern day racehorses are descendent from one of their first horses, Bonnie Scotland. Lovely home and grounds, with a winery as well. The tours are well done, with the guides dressed in historic garb.... More

Short weekend trip to Nashville, we wanted to see a plantation. I chose this one, really nice and fun. Our guide was Cliff, he is funny and informative. The house is really neat and has good stories to each room. We bought some wine, it is good. A little expensive but not bad. Wandered around the grounds, we were there... More

In a addition to a knowledgeable tour of the plantation home, this walk back in time of this historic home included the birth of horse racing with winners that continue to influence today's Derby and other top horse racing events. The love of horses ran deep and includes artifacts as ingenious as a pair of hooves preserved in royal fashion!... More
