Description: For something decidedly different and entirely enjoyable, Queenscliff's...
For something decidedly different and entirely enjoyable, Queenscliff's legendary Blues Train is one of Victoria's most spectacular entertainment and dining experiences. The Blues Train departs Queenscliff between the months of August and May, offering a unique musical meal and show. With a capacity of 200 (50 in each of the four carriages) it has become enormously popular as a function venue and can accommodate and provide catering for parties of one to 200 people for a unique dinner and show - including weddings, birthday parties, corporate functions, christmas celebrations and special occasions. The Blues Train event begins at the historic town of Queenscliff. Patrons tuck into a hearty meal prepared by our Blues Train caterers. Drinks to take on the journey are available on the platform from the T-bar in the guard's van, open at each of the four stops. At each stop revellers swap carriages to find a new band tuning-up ready for the next act. One of the carriages only has seating running along each wall. The seating arrangement and up-beat music in this carriage leaves little option other than getting up for a bit of a boogie. But you don't have to dig the blues to enjoy the Blues Train, you just have to be open to a really good time. The Blues Train runs along the old Geelong train line, stopping in turn at Suma Park historic homestead and winery, and then at Drysdale before turning around and making its way back to Queenscliff, again via Suma Park. The Blues Train has hosted many great musicians since its inception, including Aussie blues legends Jimi Hocking, Chris Wilson and Lloyd Spiegel and Aria Award winners Collard Greens and Gravy and Mia Dyson.

We had to arrive at Queenscliff station by 6:30pm to eat dinner in our carriage before the train departed at 8pm. The food is similar to camp style - baked potatoes, sliced chicken and beef roasts, with beans and carrots and bread rolls. I realise they need to feed about 200 people quickly so the food is what it is.... More

this was a great idea and the music was really terrific, but the behavior of some of the crowd made it an experience I will never recommend to my friends. We were entertaining visitors from Canada and it made me embarrassed to show them how some middle aged Australians behave. Surely you can enjoy a good time without getting blind... More

Dear CynthiaCM2013 thank you so much for taking the time to post a review of your recent experience on The Blues Train. As a licensed venue, The Blues Train takes the Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA) seriously. One of the reasons we have security staff who travel in each carriage is to be there to help you if you feel... More

What can I say. The Blues Train is an experience not to be missed. Whether you're a blues music lover or not it's a great night out. There seems to be a lot of comments about the food, but the experience isn't about the food. It's about travelling on a old steam train, meeting new people and listening to talented... More

Dear Jacinta F - thanks so much for taking the time to post a review about your recent experience on The Blues Train. As you rightly point out, the experience isn't about the food - it is 'about travelling on an old steam train, meeting new people and listening to talented people' - as we always say, you don't have... I agree with the previous review. Food was ordinary and not hot when we were served. You queue for food, overpriced wine and the toilets. Wine is only sold by the bottle and cash only. If there are over 200 hundred patrons, approximately half will be female and 3 female toilets at Drysdale Station is not nearly enough. Not sure... More

Dear LisaHampton - thanks so much for taking the time to list a detailed review of your recent experience on The Blues Train. As noted elsewhere, we are not, nor will we ever be, a 'fine-dining' experience. The Blues Train is a music tourism experience (a mini music festival, as it were) operating on a moving vintage steam train. It's... More

Still not sure about the Blues Train. It's fun for sure but honestly everyone gets soooo drunk! Women run to the bathrooms (& there aren't many!!) at each stop. The toilets are public bathrooms at the park for example on the 2nd stop, the others are portables. The food/dinner at the beginning is soooo ordinary!!!! Frozen veg, runny gravy &... More

Dear Kath086 thanks for taking the time to review your recent experience on The Blues Train. As The Blues Train is a licensed venue, there are strict policies in place that prevent people, as you have stated in your review, getting "soooo drunk!" - Our staff all hold Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA) certificates and. like any licensed venues, practice... What an experience! 4 incredibly talented artists, 4 carriages and a few stops on a historic train which has been renovated. There was dinner in the first carriage and toilet and bar stops at each stop. I do have one complaint though. My Mother and I booked vegetarian meals. When it came time to eat, the caterers advised us that... More

A very entertaining evening, well worth a visit, every body on board the train was enjoying the music and fun. The meal at the Queenscliff station at the onset of our trip was average, but then I was not expecting silver service ...the rest of the trip made up for everything plus.

What a great night out. The concept is brilliant and it works very well in practice. It's extremely well organised. Music great, the dinner also good. Can't wait for my next trip aboard the Blues Train.

The music was great, and we really enjoyed the performances, but the level of drunken behaviour really let's this experience down. I spoke to one of the staff on the night, and said sometimes it's the luck of the draw if you get a crowd who are intent on a 'big night out'. While it's clear they try and manage... More
