We took the AAKings/Gray Line-Healesville Wildlife & Puffing Billy Tour. If you are a steam train freak like me, you will enjoy the train ride. The lunch at the Fergusson(the spelling may be incorrect) Winery, which is described in their literature as "delicious" was sub par, especially as it worked out at $30AUS, a head. We went to the Healesville Sanctuary on a day-trip from Melbourne by using public transport. First, you need to take a train to Lilydale station, then a bus to Healesville. Healesville Sanctuary is quite the place and I'm glad I added it to my travel plans. The Sanctuary has been in existance for years now and is set in a leafy forest just outside of Healesville. I'd say it is less of a "zoo-like" enviroment as the enclosures have a more natural feel to them and the sanctuary has mostly... more

This is quite a large sanctuary and provides a relaxed natural settings for the animals. It is quite an ordeal to get here by public transport. The buses from Lilydale station to Healesville do not run very frequently so plan your journey carefully. The journey from Lilydale to Healesville take quite a while (maybe three quarters of an hour) but... more
