Puffing Billy is a genuine relic of our more leisurely days. An historic steam train still running regularly in the mountain district it was built to serve at the turn of the century. The Railway is the major survivor of four experimental lines used to develop rural areas in the early 1900s. Puffing Billy is now a major tourist attraction, its operation depending on hundreds of dedicated volunteers.

Went on the first class restaurant experience. Would recommend it to all. Excellent food, and friendly staff from start to finish of the rail tour. Beautiful views even in the rain and lovely fresh air. Australian version of the orient express. Very classy and great detail in the carriage. Good wine. Very pleasant day out.

What a great day for the family😊we took our 2 grandchildren,7 & 2, along with their parents on what turned out to be a cold and miserable day. That didnt worry the kids. They had a ball!. Sitting in the windows and watching fellow passengers do the same. They picked out different sites along the way, even spotting the flying... More

Ok city folks are quite used to taking trains such as the MRT in Singapore or the Underground in London... Puffing Billy though is a steam engine so it's a different type of train. We drove to the Menzies Creek station since we've a rental car and heard that there's no parking area at the Belgrave station. Met the most... More

I booked a dinner on the train and it was gorgeous. Unsure how it is on the rest of the carriages, but the dinner on the train is amazing.

This was a great day. It was cold and wet but the family had fun. The conductor on our carriage took the time to explain things to us and the kids loved it.

Remember when the carriage doors were always open? When the journey was as important as the destination? When you weren't forced to whizz by at speed because everyone else is in such a hurry? Then this is the trip for you. Once you enter the station the cars all disappear. The forest starts to encroach and for the time being... More

The train keep stopping in between before reaching station. Was told by the staff that the engine having some problems. Its fine with me but the jerking when starting the enging and sudden stop make it difficult for us to enjoy our cuisine. The food was so so only. Some parts of the trip jave nice view of the scenary.... More

If you are a railway buff then I recommend this, if you're not than I recommend you stay away. Parking at Begrave station is a nightmare! Doesn't have much going for it other than the history of it all. The ride was boring and slow, not much to see on the trip up either. $51 for a return trip to... More

Hi Kemal K, Thank you for your feedback. It's a shame that you didn't enjoy your trip aboard Puffing Billy. Our visitors tend to enjoy the lovely countryside, lush forests and fern gullies the train travels through. As you correctly pointed out, Puffing Billy travels slowly - at less than 15 mph in fact - and this gives our passengers... More

I have a young nephew who is mad about trains, what better way to spend an afternoon than riding the puffing billy railway! The staff there are dedicated to keeping the old school look and feel about the experience and were happy to pose for photos with my little nephew who was ecstatic. You can sit in the seats, or... Hi DatsoWong, Thank you for taking the time to post your review on TripAdvisor, and for your lovely feedback! We are delighted to hear that you had such a great time. I have to say, this was a bloody fun experience. You can have a three course meal in an old dining car. Leaving Belgrave the track is rough and you have pangs of worry about how you will eat like this, but it settles down. It was the depths of winter but the carriage was warm enough. The atmosphere in... More
