Puffing Billy is a genuine relic of our more leisurely days. An historic steam train still running regularly in the mountain district it was built to serve at the turn of the century. The Railway is the major survivor of four experimental lines used to develop rural areas in the early 1900s. Puffing Billy is now a major tourist attraction, its operation depending on hundreds of dedicated volunteers.

This is a trip back in time. I did an original trip from Upper Tea Tree Gulley back in the fifties so it was a trip back in time for me. It did not disappoint. You sit in open carriages and can sit with your legs outside if you wish. The countryside is beautiful and the overall experience is great.... More

In this modern century..maybe we've never seen again old train with its sound... i think there is only once a day or twice a day, so you must book early before go here. Thanks God, I and my groups went there with Melbourne Australia tour, so they've already arranged our time, and we could come on time there... The nice... More

Great old steam train. My kids enjoyed the ride. I used to live by the railway station and it sure does relive the experience i had as a boy. Bring a jacket as it's a bit cold in march during our visit. Pack some lunch and have a picnic at Lakeside/Emerald Park. Ride the paddle boat nearby and have a... More

A wonderful and relaxing trip on an old narrow gauge steam train, through beautiful forests an scenery. I recommend you book online as the train ride is obviously very popular.

What a wonderful thing the volunteers have done with this old train. It is magnificent! It was packed on the day we went, but the atmosphere was great. The commentary was good, and the scenery we travelled through was gorgeous. Well organised.

My 3 year old loved the stream train and the staff were lovely. Had a relaxing trip on the steam train through the forest and stopped off at Lakeview Park which was beautiful and family friendly.

It was great to relive the old steam train journeys with the kids without them! And in a different hemisphere! Very friendly staff and excellent views - sit on RHS as you leave Belgrave for best views. Went from Belgrave to Lakeside which was slightly too long especially since there is disappointingly nothing to do at Lakeside.

We booked a luncheon for 4 pax on the puffing billy. The route starts from Belgrave station and to Lakeside (45 mins stop) and then back to Belgrave. Entire journey takes about 3 hours. The food is so-so but the service is great! Simon our host for the lunch is very humorous. There is no kids' portion so our children... More
