I went a couple of years ago with a friend. The section for the criminally insane made me feel quite sick. The building near the previous section made me feel ill especially where they used to bath the patients. The hall where they took you down to a cellar , I heard singing. Highly recommended. Felt very sad for patients... More

Really looked forward to this experience but although our guide was very well informed, the words went over the heads of some of our older group members. They were spoken much too fast and often directed to the floor. Not that we didn't have fun-it was but it could have been so much better. History wise, extremely informative.

We did the 830pm tour, the tour guide was great and made things a bit more eerie with his stories etc. I would have loved to have been able to see it during the day also, but apparently its only open at nights for the tours.

Although the tour guide was in character and did a good job, there was no suspense and no sense of what patients endured at the asylum. I thought it was very expensive at $30 per adult for a tour that had no substance using pictures or film to enhance the experience - just anecdotes that may or may not have... More

We've been on a few ghost tours around Victoria and this time we brought an EMF device which made the tour a lot more interesting. It has now given us the bug to buy more ghost hunting equipment and really explore the paranormal. The 10pm tour was interesting - very similar to the Ararat Asylum tour but maybe not as... More

We enjoyed this tour. Lots of fun and informative about the institution. Our guide Ian made it a great night with his story telling, and sense of humour. We didn't see any ghosts but that didn't detract from the experience.

A highly recommended tour of very interesting old buildings and surrounding grounds. Our guide , who was dressed in clothing of the times, was very knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions asked. On the night, ghosts were not sighted, but we were encouraged to carefully check any photo's taken as there have been images recorded on a camera... More

I would highly recommend this to anyone who has a solid interest in history or a slight belief in ghosts. Our guide ian played the part extremely well. He knew his stuff and managed to make us all laugh and jump along the way. I now have a broader knowledge of the history of the hospital and can actually say... More

My partner and I were very much looking forward to this as my Aunt was a patient there in the 1950's. Our guide was very knowledgeable in the history of the asylum and how it changed over the years and the place was certainly very creepy. Couple of things that spoilt it for us though: The group was way too... More

I took four teenagers between 15 and 18 for the 9:00pm tour of the May Day Hills asylum and had a great evening. Ian our tour guide was funny, informative and really made the tour enjoyable. No ghosts sighted, but kids did admit to feeling a little odd in some places.Tour went for around 1.5 - 2.0 hours, visiting many... More
