First worked in 1836 and abandoned by the miners in the early 1970s, more than 130 years of mining history is captured inside waiting to be discovered. It is as if the mine has just closed. Machinery, tools, even the candles and a packet of cigarettes are still in place as the miners left them. Corris Mine Explorers gives you the opportunity to visit these abandoned slate mine workings, to step into the tough working lives of the miners and of past generations. 3 trips to choose from: 1 hour Taster, 2 hour Mine Explorer Trip and a Half Day Mine Expedition. « less

We all thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the tour. Our guide was knowledgeable, informative and fun. He didn't just talk to us but involved everyone in discussions and there were a couple of "demonstrations" to take part in as well. The tour was tailored to the people in our group and we really felt as if we had done some... More

We went for the 2h tour and absolutely loved it! Mark is a great guide and really brings the mine to life, we were really sad to leave after two hours, so do go in for the longer tour. They aren't kidding about the sensible clothing- another couple who was with us was in brightly coloured jeans and ended up... More

Did the 4 hour tour with my wife yesterday and have to say it was absolutely amazing. We had booked over the phone and were joined by a another couple doing the 2 hours and a chap doing the one hour. After we got togged up with hats and head torches we were off straight into the mountain. The network... More

We went on a two hour guide tour which was led by mark. Mark totally brought the history of this mine life. I would highly recommend visiting the mines.

Enjoyed this from start to finish - with we could have booked on the longer ones (2 or 4 hour) The guide, Mark (moley) certainly had great knowledge of the mine and interacted with the Children brilliantly. We would highly recommend this as a "must see" for anyone visiting, with or without Children!

An excellent attraction it itself that is greatly enhanced by the knowledge and humour of Mark the guide, who appears to maintain the place single-handed. He also creates paintings on some of the cavern walls ("a hobby") and when sheep meet their end falling in, it seems he pops them over his shoulders to take home and butcher for the... More

Thank you for your great 5/5 review. Mark has done some wonderful work underground, (that's why he's called Mr Mole!) helping to install paintings with Bob Mitchell - check out the Man Made Mountains film. It's one of the many things he gets up to. More

This was well worth a two hour drive from Brecon. The guide was very friendly, great with our two kids (7 and 10) and knowledgable with a sense of humour. Really got a sense of what it would like to be down a slate mine and what the conditions must have been like for the miners (starting as young as... More

Thanks for your great 5/5 review, sounds like you all had a wonderful time exploring the old Braich Goch slate mine. The King Arthur's Labyrinth attraction which you refer to uses a lower level of the old Braich Goch mine as a dramatic backdrop to retell tales of King Arthur and other ancient Welsh legends. As a part of the... More

Although we only went on the one hour taster tour because of time, my husband wanted to do four hours and the rest of us wanted two, this was excellent. Mark the guide was a laugh from start to end. He was very enthusiastic and extremely informative of the slate mine. We saw all the miners artefacts just where they... More

Thanks for your excellent review, so pleased that you enjoyed your Corris Mine Explorers trip and your "behind the scenes tour" of King Arthur's Labyrinth - it's exciting having a sneaky peek at the show beneath you! You must come back to see lots more on the 2 hour or the 4 hour trip... More

a group of friends and I went almost a year ago and I still get excited when I talk about it. We went for an hour, touched on a bit of geology, local history, modern art and did some climbing. We went back the next day to do the four hour experience and I probably would have gone back the... More

Thanks for your review, so good to read that your underground exploration with Mark is perhaps one of the best things that you’ve ever done. The underground trips reveal some exciting and genuine finds and Mark works hard to keep the underground safe for the trips with thorough daily inspections taking place. I’m not sure on how slang savvy our... More

This is the second time I've been to Corris Mine Explorers and it won't be the last! Both times have been absolutely brilliant! Mark, the guide, is so passionate about the mine and it's history it's infectious! It's impossible to not visualise the mine in it's working days, with Mark's descriptions really bringing the place to life. There is so... More

Goodness, what a title and an amazing review, thank you so very much! We look forward to seeing you again soon - on the 2 hour and the 4 hour it gets more exciting as you're kitted up with a miner's helmet, cap lamp and safety clips... More
