This little railway runs from Twywn, Wales to Nant Gwernol on the Southern edge of Snowdownia. At Nant Gwernol the loco changes ends and on the way down(the return trip) it stops for 30minutes for a tea break(i managed to knock my tea everywhere) at Abergynolwyn where there is a tea room on the station platform which is situated high... I made my first visit to the Talyllyn Railway this year, having had a life-long interest in railways and having known of the Talyllyn for as long as I can remember. More recently I read LTC Rolt's 'Railway Adventure' which describes how he and others operated the Talyllyn as a preserved railway - the first in the world - in... More

First of all the train ride is great they just need to polish up on a couple of things in which they have let go. Abergynolwyn station cafe use to be one of the many reasons why we rode this train so frequent, a ride up the valley and have a pot of tea for two between us, a nice... More

Oh dear and it was all going so well :-( you review is honest and its a shame the whole railway is let down by the cafe at Abergynolwyn. The good news is that you will be pleased to know that we are reviewing our catering facilities over the winter. I must admit I had my doubts when I agreed... More

Great day out. I would recommend getting the first train of the day from Tywyn and get off at Dolgoch Falls to do the circular waterfall route which is brilliant. Then get back on the train to Nant Gwernol where there is a beautiful circular cascade walk following the river upstream where you can view hundreds of falls one after... More

Our second trip on this beautiful and scenic little railway. Perfect day out for all ages. Superbly renovated and cared for. Our grandsons were able to have a close look at the engine from the footplate which was amazing. Beautiful.

This railway demonstrates what can be achieved by thededication and character of volunteers. All of the facilities are well maintained and managed. Clearly the people enjoy what they do and that rubs-off on the visitors. The countryside through which the railway runs is historic, scenic and accessible, and the timetable is thoughtfully arranged to facilitate diversion into it if you... More

Being hidden on the west coast of Wales, you could be forgiven for missing The Talyllyn Railway. But now I’ve told you about Talyllyn there can be no forgiveness for not visiting it. This railway has everything the bigger named railways have, and if truth be known just as bigger history to boot. Taking you from the coast to the... More

From the moment we walked into the train station it was like stepping back in time. The entire operation is beautifully kept, pristine, dog-friendly, and a great staff. When the train leaves the station all the staff even come out to wave you off, which was a great touch. The views are stunning and we hated to see the train... More

Yes we do waving very well, It become a bit of a tradition for the staff to come out and wave to the train (when they have time). Even when we can't wave we still hope to be as friendly as we can and to strive to make everybody's day special. I am very glad we made your day a... More
