Been a few times over the years, great guided tour with headphones on as you listen to the stories of what went on here. Kids love it and adults will find it fascinating

Quite an interesting place to see how prisoners were treated in the past - can be a bit creepy. Spend a moment or two in solitary which is not that scary since light comes in at the ceiling but use your imagination.

We visited the Gaol with young children worrying they'd be bored. We were wrong they loved it in and out of every cell asking what it was for and who had been there. The Gaol itself is deseptively large covering 2 floors and lots of winding corridors. Good value for money with family tickets including all children.

I don't consider myself interested in history. Surrounded by the menacing walls of this gaol, though, history literally seeps out of the masonry. Even the renovation works and a liberal helping of Radio 1 couldn't take away the chill we felt looking in some of the cells and imagining the drudgery and pain of the treadwheel. Prisons are for punishment... More

A really fantastic insight into judicial history. I thoroughly enjoyed wandering the corridors and rooms of this well preserved gaol. The cells are as bleak as you would expect, and they've got some excellent features within the gaol that you don't normally find at many museum prison counterparts. The tread mill and whipping posts for example, are still present, which... More

Bigger inside than it looks. Harsh conditions good value if visiting the Gaol and courthouse. Could do with a audio tour to make it more interesting and more fun if told through the eyes of a prisoner of the day. But well worth a visit. Needs abut if TLC in places

This Gaol has a remarkable History. If it remains open to the public don't miss a visit. The stories and conditions reveal a grim past of Mothers and Hangings.

The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end when I went into the condemned man's cell, only two people have been hanged at this gaol. All very damp, dark and truly oppressive - just what you want from a Victorian goal. Tip: So much reading material, be mindful if you are taking young children it might prove... More

Really enjoyed the visit. We actually enjoyed being able to make our own way round and look at things ourselves. Facinating look at history. The information boards were very informative but have to agree with other reviews there is little interactive to keep younger visitors attention. My daughter chose not to come with us which we were glad of as... More

We'd been to Beaumaris before, but never saw the Gaol, which is only a short walk from the Castle. It's history at it's best, still there to experience as it once was. An amazing building inside, so many rooms and you're free to roam all over and experience it. Good historic information without being boring, so you can learn a... More
