Until we visited the Courthouse, we didn't know the Gaol was here. Our first impressions were that its cold and that it must have been a terrible place to be. It is unguided, you wonder around exploring. The Gaol is quite big so will take around an hour to get around.

I read one or two bad reviews on this but I found this cold dank place very much as it should be when once it held prisoners many been tortured and some executed. The history was brill and value for money, it only cost a fiver and you don't get much for that these days. So if you expect a... More

This was a great way to spend the afternoon, thanking my lucky stars! Tip... Admittance to gaol is £5 per adult, and £5 for the courthouse. if you book both together you get the courthouse for half price. £7.50 for the two. bargain! Because the court house with its handheld narrators was fascinating too!

really good look into jails from the past, found things such as the tread wheel particularly interesting. This event could be made even better if an audio guide was available.

With the £5 entrance fee I feel the kind of hardships the convicts felt back in the day. The exhibition itself felt dated (as dated as the old gaol itself). It was ok, but that's no compliment. On the plus point I felt very secure whilst inside which made it feel rather authentic.

Went over easter. Not busy at all. No audio now just boards of info in each room. Just think more could be made of it, , Especially for the £5 each adult entrence fee.

The visit goes through the history of the building, of punishment in Wales and Anglesey. It also recalls the story of the two prisoners who were hanged, their crimes and the punishment. Only one prisoner managed to evade, to be caught few hours later. The exhibition is a bit old fashioned. In my opinion, it would benefit from a refurbishment,... More

This isn't a tacky "Dungeons" style tourist attraction but rather a bone fide museum located in a former prison dating back to the 1800's. It's interesting and different and I'd suggest if you're going to visit one tourist attraction in Beaumaris then choose the Gaol over the castle. There are better preserved castles nearby but the next nearest Gaol is... More

Family visit with our 6 year old, we all loved it. The commentary added to the atmosphere and really brought the place to life (suprisingly for 1829 each cell had its own sink and toilet). Chilling in places, especially the condemed prisoner's cell and the nursery for inmates' children to live in. Great to visit somewhere with access to all... More
