For anyone who finds themselves in Memphis with an hour to spend and an empty wallet/purse make sure you go to Mud Island. The place was practically deserted when we went so we had entire Mississippi River to ourselves (well a model of it). You can take your shoes off and wade through the model which is great for kids... walk across the bridge -- or wait for the trolley/bus. It is an easy walk and the views are great. And, if you get tired or too hot, ride back.

Many people recommended this, for the visitor center and the museum. Unfortunately it's only open April - October. In Minnesota our museums are open year round. Ok, have to respect the decisions of people in Memphis. But I wish it was open at least part of the day year round. Memphis has a LOT of visitors would would enjoy this.

This is one of the best River museums I have ever seen. It tells an intriguing history of the Mississippi River

We have been to Mud Island many times. They NEVER disappoint!! We REALLY enjoy the "river trail" (whatever they actually call it escapes me now!). That they actually add and remove water so you can see the way the river is running and all the islands and delta regions id frankly amazing! We have seen the Memphis Belle- talk about... More

Well, I was looking forward to checking Mud Island out, but it is closed November to April. It was beautiful on Saturday, but apparently Memphis didn't need the revenue.

This is worth a visit if you are in the area for a week or so - would not make it a priority if you are on a tight schedule. Can not give it an average rating since I have never seen anything like this in other cities. That being said, You gain access via a monorail that runs parallel... More

Bring your dog (on a leash) and take a stroll through the Mud Island River Park. We enjoyed a picnic on a nice fall day watching the riverboats and barges power up and down the Mississippi river. This is a little slice of beauty and peace in a bustling city.

take away the monorail journey and all you are left with is a very dilapidated "attraction"?? which is in need of a major makeover and much renovation work

Absolutely amazing to see the path of the MIssissippi built into the Riverwalk. Fabulous place to spend a hot afternoon as the "River and Gulf" are actually wading areas. The musuem was very average, not really worth the price of the entrance fee. Monorail ride over had nice views.
