Took a stroll over here last week while in Memphis. It was very enjoyable and educational for both us and the kids. The model of the Mississippi is VERY well done. The kids enjoyed walking "the whole river", while my wife and I read the descriptions and learned a fair amount we didn't know about the river and the cities... More

I enjoyed our visit to Mud Island. This tribute to the Mississippi River is well done. The river walk shows all the cities that border the Mississippi as well as the depths, widths, and flood plains. A lot of work and thought went into this design. Kids (and some adults) were wading though the model of the river. The park... More

It closes at 5 but the monorails stop at 4 so you should get there before 4pm. The monorail costs 4 dollars per person for there and back across the river to get to mud island. You could walk across but it would take a little longer. It shows you a complete diagram of the Mississippi River through all the... More

It's really only about the Mississippi river and nearby towns. The presentation is unique, however, and it was especially interesting since we had driven from New Orleans and visited many of the places "in real". Plenty of information on boards. Fun for kids with the flowing water.

We were disappointed that the bridge closes and there is no access in the evening. Would have been a nice place for an evening stroll, but we were unable to check if out.

Great reproduction of the Mississippi River, it's length and depth with cities noted. We took the monorail over and the kids loved it. The museum was enjoyable and interesting. Will definitely go back when we return to Memphis.

The hours say they are open until 5, but they really take the last group at four and then close the gates. We paid for parking at 4:01 only to find out that they were closed and to have to leave.

So in all actuality, there isn't much there, but the 'map' of the river is pretty cool. My suggestion would be to either walk over or pay for just the monorail and skip everything else. Once on the island, walk the 'river' from end to end. If you have any interest in maps or geography, it is pretty cool.

This is one of my favorite places to go, in Memphis or elsewhere. My favorite part is the 1,000 foot long scale model of the Mighty Mississippi river, done in concrete, and accurate to depth and shape, when they made it. Locations of major bridges and cities are also represented, either cast in metal, or displayed in a different kind... More

This park and museum was a great way to spend a couple of hours in downtown Memphis. Museum had a lot more to it than we thought at first. The Mississippi River model is really cool, kids loved it.
