The monorail ride over to mud island was fun and the museum, covering the history of the Mississippi valley from 10,000 years ago to the present day was very good. I particularly liked the sections on the civil war and riverboat eras and the sections covering music in the area (spiritual, blues, ragtime, jazz and rock). Outside the topographical map... More

Took the sky tram over to Mud Island. Repairs are being made, but still nice. Learned alot touring the scaled down Mississippi River...that's a looooong river, even the scaled down model. Family had a great time, staff very nice and happy to provide info.

One of the key attraction at Mud Island River Park is the scale model replica of the Mississippi River. It is a fun and interesting stroll, but if you travel its entire length you're actually travelling a significant length of the real Mississippi. I enjoyed checking it out but arrived after having walked all morning elsewhere and found myself very... More

I was at a conference at the Convention Center and took the afternoon off and walked over to the Park. $10.00 gets you a ride to the island on the overhead tram and a ticket to the museum. The museum is the history of Memphis and the Mississippi (very good) the is also a scale model of the Mississippi river... More

I had heard about this from a friend and was not sure how good it would be. The river model is very interesting (especially for adults, and kids can play in the water). Most of the walk has trees around it so you can pretty well keep to the shade. The river model and park are free, the museum cost... More

While visiting Memphis I took my two kids (age 3 and 1) during the morning hours and we had a fun time. The walk across the bridge was really enjoyable and simple, offering nice views of the city and other bridges across the river. Then while in the park, the model of the Mississippi river is interesting to adults and... More

My husband and I were in Memphis for the weekend, and looking for a way to spend a couple of hours. We opted to walk across the bridge and not purchase museum admission, so our experience was totally free. It's not a bad walk (great views from the bridge, actually), so don't let the seemingly long distance discourage you. We... More

Perhaps it was because we went just an hour before closing on a chillier afternoon, but the place was fairly dead once the school group cleared out. It was a nice little run for our kids, as they were able to take off their shoes and socks and walk through the replica of the Mississippi River, but it was severely... More

This is a very well laid out museum with some great displays, steamboat interior and ironclad interior. You will learn about the earliest settlers along the river and the constant battle with the river over the centuries to protect against (or not) the constant flooding danger. There is a fabulous scale model of the river complete with contours, inland waterways,... More

I was not sure what to expect. But I was glad I went. A great way to learn about the river plus a nice outdoor activity.
