The admission was more than I would have liked to pay for the museum, since it was relatively small and you could see everything in just a few minutes. There were some pieces I enjoyed looking at and I have some nice pictures for my book, but if you are short on time or funds, this is one you can... More

A very cool museum, if you like museums. We Do. Indoor and outdoor pieces, a Blacksmith shop, that's active, and producing work. Not just huge pieces! Some very interesting things to see, and, it's on the Mississippi River! Oh yeah, it's relatively inexpensive - $6!

This is an active and working metal shop that is also the National Museum. We were stopped by the entrance gates that are filled with individual medallions, each uniquely made (and donated to the museum we later found out.) It only got better from there. The main building has the gift shop (with pieces made on site and elsewhere) and... More

We were pretty excited about the idea of a metal art museum but were pretty disappointed with what we found. It took us less than 30 minutes to see the whole thing, which was a bummer since we were looking to pass an afternoon. However if you're REALLY into metal, it'd be worth a stop. The main building held small... More

Really awesome place if you have an interest in blacksmith work. Highly recommended The museum was cool with original works and vintage ornamental gates and art spread out over 2 buildings. An active Foundry was in effect with approx. 8 active blacksmiths hammering away. The apprentice came over introduced himself and answered questions. A pouring was scheduled for 3pm but... More

Tucked away on the south side of the I 55 bridge off exit 12 C is the National Ornamental Metal Museum. Conceived in 1975 and opened in 1979 it is the ONLY institution in the US devoted to the preservation and promotion of metalwork. Sitting on three ish acres of the old Marine hospital overlooking the Mississippi River this is... More

We both like to visit the historical locations and the unusual museum and so forth in an area. Glad we stopped in here on our way out of Memphis. We are not Elvis people so there was plenty to see and do here to make a second trip. I am an artist at heart so a stop in here was... More

I like small, special interest museums, and this fit the bill perfectly. The first thing you see when you arrive is the huge '10th Anniversary Gate' made out of ornamental metal rosettes, each rosette being made by different artisans from around the world. It was so fascinating that I think I stood there and looked at it for about half... More

It is a very quirky museum but it hosts one of the best views of the Mississippi River. It features a very specific kind of art and even has workshops for artists working with the medium of metal. Definitely worth a visit.
