We were recommended here by the manager at our accommodation Talbot Heirs Guesthouse and we had a great night ! Food was great - we shared a ribs meal which was huge and plenty for 2 . Ribs were delicious but the fries not very crispy .We loved the house band "Memphis 3 " good music and great banter -... More

I read other reviews and chose the turnip greens and a piece of fried catfish. My husband had a cheeseburger and steak fries! We both enjoyed our meals! Food came out quickly and hot. Great server, Adam. It was MLK day so had a steady stream of folks. Couldn't have been faster or more delicious! Already looking forward to going... More

We went to several clubs in Beale and this by far had the best music and atmosphere. What I think was the house band was amazing. Great rhythm guitar, harmonica me lead guitar. And not ripping cover songs. Drinks were cheap, service was good. This is where we would go first when we come back.

For what is supposed to be a Memphis institution Blues City Cafe was something of a letdown. Maybe we were there too early in the evening, but the Blues part of the cafe's name was conspicuous by its absence! What you have here in reality is a very ordinary cafe. Great service, decent enough food, but not the sort of... More

Great little place - sit in the bar area and you'll hear some great blues music. I thought the food and service was excellent - the ribs i thought were real good. I am a northerner, so I should not comment on whether they are authentic, but I enjoyed it and the prices are reasonable.

We were somewhat puzzled by this place. Our guidebook said the blues here was good but the cafe on the corner had no music - for music you needed to go down the block a few properties - which we did. We wish we had not bothered. The music was the worst we heard on a 2 week vacation and... More

Very busy for lunch! Fun to watch all the action as all seemed upbeat staff busy but pleasant. The ribs were great as were the perfectly cooked fries. Too many red potatoes served so seemed wasteful as I left some and saw others do the same. 2 is enough. The catfish that I had was cooked well according to my... More

It was our first day in Memphis and we were hungry but on Beale Street food is everywhere, but which do you choose. Try the Blues City Cafe, located across the street from BB King's Blues club at the corner of Beale and Second Ave. Everything on the menu looked great and it was all listed as "World Famous" so... We had dinner here. The band was playing some great swinging blues. Our waitress was on her game. Our food came quickly and she kept up with our drinks even after a group of 50 showed up all at once. Hole in the wall kind of place right on Beal street across from the flashy BB Kings restaurant. Ribs literally... More

Despite the flies I still ate the food. It was very good, especially the gumbo. I also recommend the pecan pie. The service is average, at best.
