Took the Shearwater across to the Isle of Rum.Although we saw a few birds and a large group of seals, nothing was pointed out to us, so I would consider this to be a ferry rather as described a wildlife cruise.Pleasant journey to and from Rum,passing Eigg and Muck on the way.

We enjoyed our journey on the MV Shearwater, but felt it was worth pointing out that this is not primarily a wildlife cruise. The boat is a ferry running a regular timetable to the Small Isles. It seems that lots of passengers do happen to see dolphins, whales or otters on the way, but this is purely down to the... More

We loved the boat trip! We sailed on a beautiful sunny morning and saw seals, minke whales and porpoise. The highlight was the pod of dolphins who played alongside the boat for a good 20 minutes. I disagree that it's "just a ferry " as the boat stopped to watch any wildlife and we made an exciting detour on the... More

We wanted a trip to Eigg to climb An Sgurr and saw that the Shearwater gave us a 5 hour stopover. The boat was immensely crowded and hugely good natured and our from Arisaig the captain paused to watch the seals. The real highlight was halfway across the channel. Here we stopped for half an hour watching two Minke Whales... More

Fantastic, amazing, wonderful views of Dolphins leaping around the boat, so many great photos and you didn't need some huge camera with mega lens. my daughter got some brilliant photos just using her phone. only thing that would have made it better would have been some communication telling us what we were seeing I.e I had to ask to find... We took a ferry from here to Rum for the day in August. The harbour is stunning and the views beautiful. Although we didn't stay long, the café and facilities were very good and really clean. The drive here from Fort William was very picturesque.

Visiting the area of Arisaig/ Mallaig to see the Small Isles. Decided to take day trips with the "MV Sheerwater", at Arisaig Marine, based at the boatyard in Arisaig. Took 2 trips, to Eigg and Rum. Boat takes you to the islands' harbours and lets you know what time you need to be back for the return journey. Very fortunate... More

We took the wildlife cruise from Luss to Muck. It was an overcast day at the start and raining heavily on the way back. What an awesome day!! We saw seals (and a whole seal colony on Muck), sharks, a whale, Dolphins. Each time something was spotted the skipper slowed right den and turned off the engine - exciting would... More

Having previously been to Eigg on the "proper " ferry we decided to go to Muck on the Sheerwater. It is that closer to the road junction at Fort William than going further to Mallaig. The boat is that much smaller and more of a local pleasure craft than a ferry but unfortunately the crew did not fully exploit this... More
