Description: Mar Lodge Estate occupies nearly 7% of the Cairngorms National Park...
Mar Lodge Estate occupies nearly 7% of the Cairngorms National Park, covers some of the most remote and scenic wild land in Scotland, including four of the five highest mountains in the UK. Within its boundaries are fine examples of classic features of a Highland landscape: remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine forest, heather moorland, juniper scrub and a part of the high Cairngorm plateau. Fifteen of the Trust's 46 Munros can be found in the Cairngorms around Mar Lodge. The estate is recognised as one of the most important nature conservation landscapes in the British Isles: over 40% of the estate is covered by national and international nature conservation designations.

This is an excellent place to go walking, clearly marked paths, scenery is just brilliant although being from the North east originally I suppose I'm slightly biased. Rained on Monday when we were here but didn't dampen our spirits. Definitely be back.

beautiful scenery and complete tranquillity. The local walks are beautiful and there are red squirrels, hares, deer, and Caledonian pines

Lovely scenic drive up to Mar Lodge and after a visit to the falls we drove on to the actual lodge. You have to park outside and walk in. So lucky while exploring the grounds of this very beautiful building a lovely member of staff stopped his quad bike for a chat. He very kindly offered us a tour inside... More

We were looking forward to exploring some walks around the estate but arrived after a long drive and since there were no facilities (only one toilet and it was out of order) we headed back to Braemar village and walked from there instead.

Found this location by chance and what a treat. After a 2hr easy walk in the woods we only bumped into one other couple. A great find

Great trails and hills await. If you don't fancy the big hills enjoy the woods and forests with natural rather than planted trees. Glen Quoich is one of my favourite glens in Scotland - well worth a visit.

It was a nice drive along the river with a fantastic waterfall at the end. A few steps to get nearer to the river and ample parking.Very scenic. We saw some deer.

What a location and lodge. The barn is amazing to look at if you like the look of deer skulls. The whole inside roof and walls are covered with them! Certainly a mouth dropping impression when you walk in.
