The Show Park was not busy when we called apart from proud friends and parents watching the youngsters performing in the Junior Highland Games. It was still very colourful with many Highland Dancers in their various tartans as were the judges and officials. The Park is compact and it was clear to see the attraction of the full Highland Gathering... More

The Scottish Highlands are one of the most majestic places that I've ever visited. The Braemar Gathering is a traditional gathering where men and women compete in traditional Scottish Highland Games. The weather in Braemar was very temperamental. At first, we enjoyed clouds, but then the skies opened up and it began to pour. That's when we decided to walk... More

This is more community games than traditional Highland games. The traditional events were the highland fling dances, tug-of-war, the cable toss and backward kettle bell toss. For the latter two events, the men participated in their kilts. Other events were the short races (eg. 100-yard dash, the mile run, etc.), hillside cross-country run, the long jump and high jump for... More

My husband and I thought no trip to Scotland would be complete without going to one of their Highland Games. This particular event held in Braemar each year has the queen as the patron. We were able to see her, Prince Philip, and Prince Charles, but equally entertaining were the bag pipers, highland dancing competitions, the track and field events... More

This 'Gathering' is many years old, and clearly never updated in its organisation. Don't pay the advance fee (unless you want a grandstand/stand seat) or the £10 entry fee for the day of the games, because we watched everyone walk into the site with tickets unchecked yesterday. If you pay in advance for a seat - note that space per... More

Get your tickets early it would be a shame to miss out. We opted for uncovered Stand B 0256 and it was a great spot to watch everything. Come well prepared with raincoats and umbrellas because for us the weather changed quickly. Parking is easy if you get there early games started at 9:30 and there is so much going... More

I've been coming to this for years and absolutely adore it. Wonderfully Scottish, wonderfully British and wonderfully athletic all in one! Braemar has a fantastic community feel to it on the day of the Games and the event itself feels like one mini highlands olympics....and Her Majesty too! What more could you want. A very exciting day out

The highlight of a great trip. We planned our tour of the NorthEast highlands around this event, and it did not disappoint. While the games and bands were excellent, the most impressive part of this event was.... the spectators. The people we sat around were fantastic. Very friendly and very sharing with their scotch!! The Scots themselves sold us on... More

Had a fantastic evening watching eight wonderful dancers along with their piper and a compere. Piper had lived for 27 years in my own town of Beeston. Compere was delightfully Scottish and the dancers brimmed with confidence and fun
