We have enjoyed the Braemar highland games several times and this year it was a very special happening as It was the 200th Royal Highland Games. Always a fantastic event, it was a lovely day with sunshine and a crisp wind, the queen looked amazing and the feeling we got from attending and enjoying the village for a few weeks... More

This was our second year to attend the Braemar gathering and this year we enjoyed some every good weather luckily. This is a unique example of the Scottish tradition and made all the more special by the attendance of the Queen for a few hours. To get a good view of her, remember that she normally sits to the right... More

This is a terrific event that provides the opportunity to see many traditional Scotish games and numerous pipe bands. A huge attraction is the visit of the Queen of England and her entourage.

We attended the Braemar Gathering in 2012, and this year's was even more spectacular than before. Tickets for the 2016 Gathering go on sale in November. (There is a website.) It's an all-day affair, and a bit of a long way from where you park the car to get to the event, plus possibly/probably a climb into the stands to... More

The Braemar Highland Games are held each year on the first Saturday of Sept. One can purchase tickets online about Nov. of the preceding year. I would recommend doing so - getting Grandstand tickets are well worth the extra price. Our reserved seats were located underneath the overhang and about 90 feet from where Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were... More

The Braemar Gathering is a traditional Scottish Games extravaganza. Virtually every form of Scottish competition (short of Scotch tasting) is offered and it goes on all day. The pageantry, color, bagpipe music, and royalty is very exciting and exceptional. Yes, the royal family showed up for an hour and occupied the Royal Box. Among the more interesting events were the... More

A great experience in a natural arena! Massed pipe bands, heavy events and dancing all in the same arena. Take warm clothes, buy a ground ticket and take a folding seat! Definitely a place to take overseas visitors.

Attended the 200th. anniversary of the Braemar games and was rewarded by the presence of the Queen of England. The games were entertaining and all the clans that marched with their bagpipes and drums was a sight to behold.

Although we live only an hour's drive away from Braemar, this was the first time that we had attended this annual event - celebrating its bicentenary this year. Widely regarded as the premier games event in Scotland, it is usually attended by the royal family - and this year was no exception with the Queen and Princes Philip and Charles... More

I went with my boyfriend in 2015 on the recommendation of a member of staff at Braemar Castle. We arrived at about 9:30 and stayed all day! It was a bit cold and blustery but we managed to put that aside for the amazing spot we got and kept throughout the day (we didn't have tickets for the grand stand).... More
