Completed a Thistle Camp at Inverewe gardens in April. The garden location is very special with some outstanding views. There are some champion specimens of trees and there is a lot of thought behind the garden design .Look at the gates at the bottom of the formal garden and the platform designed to imitate the fern at the insect eating... relative I suppose but although the plants and flowers were really nice, I feel £10.50 for an adult is a bit too expensive for entry. No doubt a lot of work goes Into the gardens and it's very clean and well presented. We e mailed before and were told dogs were aloud if on a lead however when we arrived... More

I am sorry you were given the wrong information regarding dogs. Sadly, we had to stop allowing dogs into the Garden as too many owners were neither controlling their animals - to the distress of other visitors, nor cleaning up after them. This is disappointing. As a dog owner myself can sympathise. To try and sugar the pill we built... More

Visited on Easter Monday and spent almost 3 hours wandering through the garden, enjoying the magnolias and rhododendrons as well as Spring flowers. Staff were friendly and helpful as well as the many volunteers working to clear up and repair damage caused by extreme storms earlier in the year. There are guided tours but for me the freedom to explore... More

I would very much recommend visiting Inverewe if you're in the Highlands and have even a passing interest in botany or would simply like a stroll among some stunning plant specimens from all over the world. The guides are also great if you happen to be there when a walk is about to start, but don't feel you have to... More

We visited here on a cold, grey day at the end of October and there was still lots of colour and plenty of plants flowering. Tucked away in a natural shelter, it is amazing to see what will actually grow on the west coast of Scotland in the autumn/winter. We had such a good few hours wandering the gardens and... More

The gardens and their plants are spectacular and it's amazing that someone could amass such a collection. Our little one was not bored as there is a game for kids to play as they go round seeing plants from particular countries and filling in their sheet with the answers. The kitchen garden is amazing too!

No I'm not saying you should plan your trip in winter to go see these beautiful gardens. But if you are in the area in winter, go have a look. My visit on 01 December 2014 was on a benign day. In fact it was more like April than December. Not that the plants were fooled. I was surprised though... More

A must-see even out of season like it was when I visited. There was still plenty to interest on the last day of November 2014. I was actually impressed it was open (honesty box at the gate). If the weather's kind (like it was for me) the views are terrific of Loch Ewe and Poolewe. There were still fragrances in... More

The gardens are spectacular and easy to walk round. We were amazed at the number of Tropical plants growing happily there. Many of the plants have name tags on which adds to the enjoyment. The cafe is just about OK - the only hot dish available was soup and the coffee is worth avoiding.

I have been to Inverewe in all seasons and each has its own attractions. Our latest visit saw the gardeners clearing cutting back and preparing plants for winter. The gardeners were very knowledgable, friendly and willing to share their expertise. The setting is magnificent and so are the plants in such variety. If you are a member of the National... More
