Founded in 1878 by a few enthusiasts Troon Golf Club soon outgrew its purely local reputation. The Old Course today presents a stern golfing examination and in particular the inward half of Royal Troon is widely accepted as the most demanding of any Course on the Championship rota.

The Open will return to the Ayrshire coast in 2016 when the 145th Championship is played at Royal Troon.

Golfers the world over vie to play Royal Troon's famous courses and we encourage visitors to experience one of the most demanding Championship courses on the circuit. Visitors are most warmly welcomed at Royal Troon Golf Club from mid-April until mid-October each year on Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays.

Of the five courses we played the first week of October 2015 this course ranked #3 for me. It was a delicate and suttle track. Wind made the course more challenging on our day but honestly if you hit a straight ball and can avoid bunkers then you should score here. The par 3 called "the postage stamp" was a... More

Played Royal Troon yesterday. From the welcome when we entered the clubhouse to the restaurant staff and shop staff was fantastic. The course is in the best shape I have ever seen it with perfect greens. A credit to the greenkeeping team for this. I believe that the 2016 Open will be the best one yet.

I had the pleasure of playing the 2016 Open Course and can honestly say it one of the finest courses I have ever played. The facilities at the club are second to none and the staff are both welcoming and helpful. If you get the chance to play this course do not miss it.

To be fair, we had a glorious day with only a soft breeze. But this is the best complex we have ever been to. The Old course absolutely spectacular, so special, beautifully manicured and shaped, almost a spiritual experience playing here. And the Portland course superb too, incredibly pretty with some stunning holes. The people were just brilliant. From the... More

while the course is fantastic the staff( pro shop, restaurant , starter and fore caddy) are not up to the standard of such a course . We played Preswick and Turnberry the same time and the standards where much higher

My father and I played this track from the yellow tees by a mind blowing Windy day. It was a real challenge. The fabulous 8th hole is a signature hole. The greens are fast and bumpy. We did not play with a caddie and to be honest, it was a mistake. The caddie at the royal troon are a very... More

This was our first round of golf in Scotland. It didn't rain on us and we were there just after The Open at St Andrews where they canceled a round due to the wind and rain. So we got better than the big boys did. We did however play in full rain gear due to 25-35 mph wind. The rough... More

The course was not as tough as expected nor the greens as fast but it is a great experience and if you are offline you are severely punished, the bunkers are all punishing and at least a one shot penalty. The eighth bunkers are particularly tough.

We were a group of eight golfers and the Royal Troon was one of ten courses that we played. Our weather was fabulous and the course was in top condition. We loved the layout and while the course was challenging we enjoyed the experience of this amazing links course. Half of our group are high handicappers while the rest are... More

On the banks of the River Clyde and views of the Scottish islands, this links course is awesome. If the weather is good, this course is an unforgettable experience. In the summer months recommend you wear anti midget spray as they can really nip. The golf staff and facilities are excellent. You could extend your visit by staying in the... More
