We stumbled across this bay one evening last August and walked along it as the sun set, utterly perfect, there were about 2 other families on the beach so it was nice and quiet. There is nothing permanent here that is not natural, idyllic! We walked along the beach and climbed into the sand dunes, the tide was going out...

There is a short minor road running west of Durness off the A838 taking you to Balnakiel Bay. We were lucky enough to drive down it on a calm bright day and found a huge length of sand that is the equal of any I have seen in Britain. We enjoyed a long walk down a track through the huge...
