Amazing interaction for pre secondary school kids. Take your kids from age 5 upwards, under 5 may eat the butterflies. Nature and beauty can be educating and fun.
Really enjoyed our walk round. People are very passionate and knowledgable and made it really interesting for the children. Will definitely be back
Was much better than anticipated, the free flying butterfly area is well executed with a really authentic environment, saw several butterfly species, but also chrysalises and caterpillars - and there are also free roaming quails, terrapins, stick insects, giant land snails and (apparently!) iguanas. Was also impressed to see a decent sized reptile and insect section, and a nocturnal room... More
The kids love Butterfly & Insect World, so I decided to bite the bullet and go along. While it's not the biggest set up, it is very organised and the staff we met during our visit were all courteous and informative. As well as the butterflies, they have snakes, spiders, leaf cutting ants and much more! I expected the visit... More
I came here with my three year old daughter and one year old son, to entertain them for an hour before going to Dobbies garden centre. We've been several times before and it is a decent attraction, if in need of a bit of updating and investment. The best part is the large tropical greenhouse which has paths you can... More
Butterfly and Insect Worlds, per se, are interesting particualrly with children but I am not enthusiastic about them. However, the one at Lasswade is well kept and managed and well worth one visit, if you have children to entertain. It is within the estate of Dobbies, the garden centre, so there is lots to do in the garden centre and... More
I SO wanted to like it here, we visited for 20 minutes. Maybe if you had children they would be more occupied. I think there should be more "keeper" talks, more showings, something else to keep visitors in the area. You get a "come and go" pass, but other than dobbies world there isn't enough to keep tourists in the... More
Spent a few hours here, wonderful and almost surreal all those butterflies flying around you! you can spend some time in their, leave and visit Dobbies and have lunch, then return later, they stamp your hand so you dont need to pay twice :) staff are friendly too! NB to anyone planning on takin photo's make sure you have a... More
The butterfly area was alright, rest of the place was extremely run down, needs a complete overhaul. In particular, I was upset to see large reptiles and other animals and insects confined to very small spaces, this should not be allowed.
She is to get a chance to see these butterflies and reptiles in their own countries and environments, so we took her with us. Staff here could not have been more helpful. They offered to let her feed things, but she was in her 'shy' mode at that point, so we had to decline. They did however show us how... More
