Hugely enjoyable golf, splendid clubhouse and warm welcome await at Crail Golfing Society. Founded in 1786 and the seventh oldest golf club in the world, it celebrated its 225th anniversary in 2011. The club has two courses: Balcomie Links, a unique, traditional links laid out by Old Tom Morris, and Craighead Links, a challenging links experience designed by 2009 Golf Course Architect of the Year Gil Hanse.

Not overly long, but a classic old links course that is a fun course to play. Several holes run right along the ocean, and if your feeling brave you can even fly some shots across the ocean to cut off a dogleg.

My husband had a great day on this beautifully scenic course on the edge of the sea. We had dinner in the restaurant, which I believe is members only unless you are playing there. Wonderful outlook and lovely food.

We had a marvelous day and a great round of gold at Balcomie Links. The professional staff were very friendly and welcoming. All of the arrangements were handled smoothly. They offer caddies, push or electirc carts and have an excellent course guide. The course was in excellent condition. We were joined on the third hole by a member who generously... More

We like Links with History and this was the second of four courses we played. Whilst there is no denying its pedigree we all found the course (Balcomie) a little disappointing simply because so many holes shared the same space (a wide expanse of fairway that didn't seem to be defined as for a particular hole). There were many golfers... More

The slightly confusing nature of some of the holes on Balcomie is commented on from time to time by first time visitors and this is something the club is aware of. However, one of the difficulties of managing one of the oldest golf courses in the world is how best to balance heritage with the needs of the modern golfer.... More

Played Balcomie today with my golfing buddy Robert. Also booked to play Craighead later this week. From entering the pro-shop to having bacon rolls followed by a beautiful lunch in the fab clubhouse, were extremely well treated and valued as customers. We are both looking to join this club, departing from our current East Neuk club. Graham & David in... More

Played here on breezy warm sunny day. If there is a better place to play golf must be spectacular. Standing on a tee and driving towards the sea which was fairly angry was just wonderful which is more than can be said for my golf. Club house is very comfortable and food is excellent. Crab salad for me. This should... More

Crail is one of the best links courses in Scotland. I have never had a bad game here. It is also very historic, as Crail had connections to the Netherlands back in 16th century. Crail could well have been one of the first places in Scotland where golf was played.

we visit Crail most years so the golf course there is something very familiar to us. There are two courses at Crail Golfing Society. The newer course is Craighead and the older one is Balcomie. Both are excellent. Craighead is probably the stiffer golfing test. There is plenty to occupy golfers of all abilities with some cracking holes. The views across... More

loved playing Crail on a recent trip to Scotland, not as difficult as many other courses but very scenic with top ocean views. Highly recommended.

Being my first visit to Scotland to see The Open, it was always a dream of mine to play golf in Scotland. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to play Balcomie the day following The Open thanks to the Crail Golfing Society reservationist being able to change my tee time from Monday to Tuesday due to the Open being...
