Visited Dumfries House on a beautiful summer afternoon with my daughter, who uses a wheelchair, hoping to enjoy a picnic in the grounds. This we did, but with a huge amount of difficulty, locating the main car park ( no disabled spaces! ) and manoeuvring the wheelchair up a steep red ash path and through grounds covered in shale was... Have been numerous times before and have reviewed before but WOW!!!!! The work that has been done is amazing. The front of house is amazing and the walled gardens are out of the world. People were literally stopping at gates going wow. We will be back very soon

An excellent day out. Tour of the house well worth doing, with its Chippendale furniture and lovely interiors. Beautiful grounds and newly restored gardens well worth exploring, a delightful cafeteria and shop. Adequate light meals. Restaurant open at certain times (Not visited). Congratulations to Prince of Wales for rescuing the place. Free access to walks, picnics, cafe. Charge only for... More

Put succinctly..this is the most amazing stately home which I have ever visited. The Guide was excellent..knowledgeable and enthusiastic..and the House is full of amazing furniture, carpets, tapestries and art.The first commission for one of our most famous architects,Robert Adam, and then there is the Chippendale furniture which is worthy of the ticket price alone. I took the "extended" tour which at £13(including... More

Our family of five adults of three generations and our own two children one almost two years and a six month old visited this wonderful attraction today. Dumfries House is stunning in its architecture and history but unfortunately we were let down by confused staff. We were contemplating whether or not to go on the tour with such young children... Really enjoyed our visit to Dumfries House. We went on the extended tour and it was well worth it. The furniture and standard of restoration are a joy and it is pleasing to see the care and attention which is being taken to restore this property and its contents.

Having heard so much about this property & its contents which were saved by the extraordinary initiative of the Prince of Wales, I had to see it & was most impressed! We were able to get on an afternoon tour at relatively short notice & our local guide was extremely knowledgeable. For me, an extra bonus was the display of... More

Took the Grand Tour; staff very accommodating and enabled us to take the morning tour rather than the afternoon one for which we held reservations.

A magnificent home saved by the prince of Wales. We had an excellent tour guide and did the extended tour. With only a few of us, I think we had a more personalised showing. Unfortunately the front gardens were in the process of having fountains installed, but did not take away from the grandeur of the place. the home is... More

This is a terrific place , rescued by the Prince of Wales , and run by a trust, discount if you are a historic Scotland member, and now giving a country house full of lovely furniture - but you must book a tour by phone ( no online booking) , and you only see a few rooms albeit very interesting...
