I visited with a friend en route to a Spa break locally. We stopped off for lunch in the coffee shop. Although we didn't have time that day to Explore the vast gardens. we will return to do this in the Spring. Extremely busy on the day with lots of walkers as well as tourists. A beautiful place and worth... More

We recently had an overnight stay at Dumfries House Lodge to watch the Annual Fireworks Display and to see the progress made on the Estate in the past 18 months. It didn’t include a visit to the House itself on this occasion which we have previously toured. Worth bearing in mind at this time of year is that the House... More

We attended the annual fireworks display at Dumfries House on the evening of 8th November. The organisers laid on shuttle buses leaving from Auchinleck Academy and Cumnock Academy taking the very many visitors to the event. Due to the heavy rain on the evening we decided to 'cut it neat' to avoid hanging around getting too wet before the start... More

From the welcoming video to the end of the tour this was a truly memorable feat of restoration. It has to be a "must see" for anyone visiting Scotland. The furniture is quite superb as are the paintings and carpets. Outside there is the new Queen Elizabeth Garden to drool over and any number of scenic walks through the woods... More

What a pleasure it was to be taken round a house in such a wonderful condition and to see the care that has been taken everywhere we were taken, the incredible Chippendale furniture and original Axminster carpets. The delight of walking through rooms that were not tired or containing battered and abused furniture is something worth experiencing unlike so many... More

Our first visit here was as part of a group of 24, and I understand that the tour of the House are conducted in groups each led by a guide. In the reception area there was a video welcoming message from Prince Charles, this message and subsequent information on the Tour was an indication of his continuing interest and personal... More

Our Aunt hosted her 95th birthday dinner at Dumfries House and this included a tour of the house and dinner in the library restaurant. The staff could not do enough for us arranging seating for those requiring it during the tour and even producing a hot water bottle for one guest who was feeling particularly chilly.

Very interesting guided tour (thank you Ms English). The house has been beautifully restored. Everything top quality. Just as it must have been originally. Although you are asked to take care where you walk there are no restricting ropes. The hour flew by. After lunch we strolled over to the restored walled garden which is very impressive and still improving.
