My Mother, Grandparents and I had a guided tour of the house today. It was really great, the tour guide was excellent Chris, which was his first tour but you wouldn't have guessed. Would recommend to anyone.

We took our 7 year old son to Dumfries House and he absolutely loved it! The engineering park in particular was his favourite. Everything looked like it was either brand new or just recently cleaned & painted and the gardens were immaculate. We didn't take a tour of the house (all tours were fully booked) which made for a very... More

The house and gardens are well worth a visit, although much of the formal planting in the walled garden is still fairly new it it still good with lots of interest, and will improve year on year. The woodlands resturant in the grounds is excellent serving a Sunday lunch on the day of our visit a lot of which comprised... More

We set off with our 12 year old granddaughter and picked up an old friend en route and made our way to Dumfries House. We had a quick lunch on arrival and it was quite satisfactory although like most British attractions a tad expensive. The House Tour was next and what a delight it turned out to be. We had... More

A beautifully preserved and restored house, with a large collection of wonderful original Chippendale furniture, and some of the oldest remaining Axminster carpets in the world. Our tour guide, Gayle, was great - very knowledgeable about her subject, but also entertaining and witty. She made the house really come alive. The surrounding gardens are beautiful too - lovely woodland walks,... More

We visited Dumfries House whilst staying in Ayrshire and had a lovely day exploring. The tour of the house was fantastic, thanks partly to our great guide. The gardens were beautifully presented and we had a delicious lunch in the cafe. We wished we had kids with us as an excuse to go on the adventure playground. A great day... More

Refurbished by a recently formed trust - which Prince Charles has been persuaded to "lead" - the standards of workmanship both in the original fabric and in the refurbishment are truly remarkable. (National Trust take note). We were guided around some exquisite collections of furniture and Axminster carpets (home industry for us) by excellent staff - they were a credit... More

I have nothing but good things to say about the grounds of Dumfries House, so many different areas to visit - the walled garden is stunning and The Rothesay Garden is delightful. In fact there is so much to see and do I am planning my next visit. I will however be taking a picnic with me as I was... More

We visited Dumfries House in Ayrshire yesterday with friends and you have to take a timed escorted tour. We firstly booked our tickets, then had a light lunch in the attractive cafe there (built in the old stable block) and the food was delicious. Good clean restrooms. We then walked up to the house and enjoyed an informative talk by... More
