The rescue of this house by Peince Charles is a marvellous success. The guided tour of the house is excellent and our guide Una was most informative. It is wonderful to see the famed collection of Chippendale furniture. We would have liked a bit longer to look at the pictures and furnishings but undersatand the time restraints. What is being... I had heard such great reports about the grandeur of this House that I jumped at the chance to visit it with a group of 20 from my local Historical Group. With tea or coffee and shortbread for starters and an introduction from the Prince of Wales ( by DVD) then our magnificent tour guide who informed us of so... More

We have been visiting this ongoing restoration and development since it was first opened to the public after Prince Charles rescued it for our nation. Every visit reveals new delights and treasures so repeat visits are never boring. This visit was on Easter Monday with friends from Australia who were, as we were, stunned by what we saw, and that... The work inside and out goes on. Not that you may notice, it looks great. The walled garden (£3 extra in theory) is very fine, the Adam bridge restored, the decor in the house blossoming. The Prince has done well! The week point is now the catering, on Easter Sunday the Coach house cafe was mobed, kids and dogs everywhere.... More

Excellent place for a day out, with or without the kids. Good wide open spaces for youngsters to run about and a good kids playground! Touring the house is not cheap but is well worth it! We had an extended tour and Barry, the guide, was excellent. The cafe is reasonable with indoor and outdoor seating . Didn't try the... More

We visited on a lovely sunny day over Easter and had a blast. We took part in a Easter hunt around the gardens and spent plenty time in the various woodland play parks. Great clean facilities and the staff were all helpful. Worth a visit! Take a picnic and it's truly FREE.

This is how restoration should always be. Caring, conscientious, meticulous, and not cutting corners. After many, many visits to NTS properties it is a breath of fresh air. The grounds are a delight. Clearly being developed with care and passion. It was a delight to see the restored Adam buildings - the laundry, bridge and Coach House - all with... More

I love the way the Dumfries House Estate has embraced traditional values and craftsmanship. The grounds are being developed continually. Every time I go there is something new that thrills me. I supply the shop with silk scarves and cant wait to do my next design based on the spring flowers in the walled garden.

We did the Grand Tour with my in-laws last July. It was very well run, the guides were excellent and the house was stunning. Because it was a Sunday in July, it was extremely busy and I did feel there were maybe half a dozen people too many in the tour - it would have been more enjoyable with a... More

Visited Dumfries House and booked the Full House Tour which was fantastic. Learned so much of our own Scottish history. The house and grounds are fantastic and are evolving with the help of public and private funds to become one the best Scottish country hosue estates in Scotland. There is a cost for the house and art tours but you... More
