Having read and heard if the dramatic rescue purchase led by the Prince of Wales's Trusts (at some considerable risk), we decided to visit while on holiday in the area. Having pre-booked The Grand Tour of the house for 1.30, we spent the early part of our visit exploring the arboretum (newly planted) and the wonderful walled gardens. Our 5... More

This accommodation was five star all the way amazing food and the staff couldn't do enough to help. Have visited lots of interesting places but this is by far the best.

This grand house has been rescued and the grounds are still undergoing a major restoration. It is well worth a visit and taking the guided tour of the house, to see all the lovely Chippendale furniture and the decoration, especially some of the ornate ceilings. The new walled garden and arboretum are beginning to develop and these will look even... More

The story of the rescue of Dumfries House and the wonderful restoration and conservation work which has been undertaken since 2007 is well known. The place itself does not disappoint. The tour of the house is excellent and explanatory. The collection of Chippendale furniture is amazing and the interiors are fresh, beautiful and a joy to behold. The gardens, particularly,... More

Visit regularly as its only a 10 minute drive away. Grounds are lovely, lots to see and do. Took part in the archery drop in session yesterday and loved it. Wasn't busy so it was more like a private lesson, staff were friendly and helpful. Cafe is good for a coffee or a meal, priced similar to surrounding places but... More

We had the guided tour mid week in August & it was wonderful. This house with it's original furniture & contents is fabulous & unique. The restoration must have been a labour of love. The tour guide gave us a very interesting, detailed tour which lasted about 90 minutes & I could gladly have gone round again to see if... More

This is beautiful house which has been restored with the help of the Princes' Trust. The house contains a wonderful collection of Chippendale furniture. Tours of the house have to be accompanied. There are beautiful gardens and tea rooms. Also a cookery school, restaurant and engineering project. There are also good facilities and playground for children. Amazingly entry to the... More

Really grand house and gardens, we wish we had more time. Stunning views to the estuary and really good grounds including the restored walled garden.

The only trouble / problem I found no staff around, you can't go in unless you are on a guided tour, which I understand because of stealing etc. We arrived at 2-30 a notice on the door said next tour 3-30,nothing to do for an hour, as you well know the weather? Looked through some windows looked very interesting. Sorry this what... More

Beautiful gardens. Nice tea shop - it was raining when we went so maybe a bit quieter. Kids enjoyed play areas and actually so did we!! Lovely to see it restored.
