Dumfries House is worth a visit. You need to buy a ticket to view the house and that is certainly worth doing, (although not really suitable for younger children) The grounds are beautiful and they have something to offer everyone. They are free with the exception of the walled garden which was recently opened by the Queen and costs around... More

You have the option or house, estate and walled garden. If you only want to walk round the estate then this is free of charge the others are small charges. Dogs very much allowed so long as on lead and you clean up behind. Children have room to run and a play area as well.

it is nice to see this house restored and open to the public as well as providing local schools with a training venue for traditional skills

Dumfries House is a very elegant building, there is no charge to get onto the estate but id you wish to go round the house there is a charge of £9 for a one hour tour or £13 for the Grand tour. we chose the £9 tour and our guide Pat was very informative and very friendly with a great... More

There are big improvements on this estate since I was last there 20 years ago.... and it was stunning then. There has been a lot of restoration work and new paths. The walled garden has been developed with new period type buildings using traditional craftmanship, a rare skill nowadays. The newly developed areas are still very fresh and the trees... More

Awesome country escape. There is a cafe, walled garden, little maze near the main house, a fountain and an amazing kids play ground. It is immaculately well kept and well worth a look. Even if your just looking for a picturesque picnic, this is the place. However the signs are not great, there are several car parks and the first... More

Visited Dumfries House on a beautiful summer afternoon with my daughter, who uses a wheelchair, hoping to enjoy a picnic in the grounds. This we did, but with a huge amount of difficulty, locating the main car park ( no disabled spaces! ) and manoeuvring the wheelchair up a steep red ash path and through grounds covered in shale was... Have been numerous times before and have reviewed before but WOW!!!!! The work that has been done is amazing. The front of house is amazing and the walled gardens are out of the world. People were literally stopping at gates going wow. We will be back very soon

Put succinctly..this is the most amazing stately home which I have ever visited. The Guide was excellent..knowledgeable and enthusiastic..and the House is full of amazing furniture, carpets, tapestries and art.The first commission for one of our most famous architects,Robert Adam, and then there is the Chippendale furniture which is worthy of the ticket price alone. I took the "extended" tour which at £13(including... More
