Spent the day here and did the grand tour of the house. I would highly recommend doing this, as the house is so beautifully restored and Alex Mc Donald is a very knowledgeable and passionate tour guide! He speaks with such enthusiasm , that you get caught up in the history of this stunning house. Add to that the sumptuous... More

Lots of space to roam and all free! Well, a few pounds to get into the walled garden which is okay, but will look better in summer with more flowers in bloom but the walk there is fabulous. A wee van selling teas and coffees and snacks is an addition to the Coach house cafe and the peace and tranquillity... More

We spent a lovely day at this restored and lovingly managed estate. It has so much to offer for the folks who work there and for the folks who visit. The food is also very good. My husband and I enjoyed this experience thoroughly.

The transformation of Dumfries House over the last ten years has been tremendous. The beautiful gardens, the children's play area, the educational centre, the walled garden, the huge towering trees, the lovely bridge with cleopatra's needle replica's on top, the secret statue in the woods and most of all the main building with its maze, fountain and Chippendale furniture. On... More

Visiting relatives in Ayr, we took a trip to Dumfries House with them on their recommendation. We had not heard of it before, but found it to be an amazing experience. The House has history - Adams architecture and unique Chippendale furniture - and we took the tour to discover more. There has been a lot of work done recently,... More

Dumfries House is at the forefront of heritage-led regeneration. The House, only opened to the Public in 2008, is a centre for enjoyment of the arts, craftsmanship and beauty. What has been achieved in such a short time, has to be seen to be believed. Both the grounds and the House are well worth a visit.

It would have been a shame if we had lost this house as almost happened. The house has been marvelously well preserved, and most special of all it offers local people employment and the opportunity to learn skills needed to restore other grand houses in need to repair (of which there are still many). The experience to enjoy this was... More

The rescue of this house by Peince Charles is a marvellous success. The guided tour of the house is excellent and our guide Una was most informative. It is wonderful to see the famed collection of Chippendale furniture. We would have liked a bit longer to look at the pictures and furnishings but undersatand the time restraints. What is being...
