Really surprised at the poor offering for lunch. This is supposed to be a flagship NT estate and the menu comprised soup, a ploughmans, a pie or a sandwich. What effort went into that? Never mind. We really came to see the magnolias and they were superb, even though it is a little early in the season. What mighty trees,... More

this is a magnificent visit. fabulous house tour, regularly changing with NT works, which creates more interest. The house guides and gardeners are relaxingly helpful and informative. Walled garden is a delight to behold, the estate grounds are charming, easy-formal, soothing. I could dawdle for long days, looking beyond, resting (!!) regularly. Had deliciously reasonably priced tea and cake in... More

The gardens were great and we really enjoyed just pottering around in them. I can only imagine how lovely they would be in the summer when everything is in bloom but even in winter they were still worth visiting. Most of the house was closed off when we visited which was a shame but what there was interesting enough for... More

Knightshayes is a large house on a large estate. So much to see and do, even just walking round the grounds if you want to. House is amazing, friendly approachable guides available to answer your questions. Well worth a visit.

Fascinating house that looks Elizabethan but is actually Victorian. Very friendly and informative staff. Lovely gardens. Tea room in old stables serving really delicious local food. One word of warning. Visit in season when buggies are running if disabled as walk from car park is long and challenging for elderly or infirm.

I think the garden in the spring at Knightshayes is more stunning than Rosemoor, which is saying something. The vegetable garden is a must and the hole park is beautiful any time of year. There's the house as well and that's all right.

the house was interesting but the star was the garden. Very interesting planting and the volunteers and gardeners were knowledgable and willing to share that with all visitors.

Have been NT members for many years and visit Knighthayes regularly and love the overall ambience. The house is a very interesting gothic treasure and we find something new to enjoy there every visit. The food in the restaurant is very good with very good service.

This is a story of the decline and fall of a Victorian family, ( the Heathcoat - Amorys) and their fate is mirrored by the fortunes of this house. As National Trust properties go, this really is not that old, although it is undoubtedly one of their more interesting properties. Built on the whim of a Victorian inventor, and enterprising...
