I'm not normally known to to have a kindred spirit thing with animals that are generally larger than me or that sting or bite or generally could cause me harm, but the experience I witnessed today at the Shilstone Rocks Riding School went a long way to put most of my fears to rest.We had a most thorough induction and an... This was the 8th time in 11 years we've visited Shilstone Rocks and as ever we were greeted warmly and my pony mad girls had a fabulous time. Both our daughters ride very competantly and were keen to get out onto the moors for a canter. We are well prepared for the rather slow paperwork/ assessment bit [allow 1/2 hour... More

4 of us (16-23 years) booked in for a 2 hour trek at relatively last minute as total beginners. Considering none of us had been on a horse before we were a little nervous. However, the tuition was excellent and we enjoyed the trek through the moors and the wildlife. I had a great time on Akubra and big thanks... More

What a fantastic time i had riding with Shilstone trekking centre. I rode three consecutive days up on the moors, took in some wonderful views, fell in love with Russle ( the horse) who by the way looked after me. It has done wonders for my confidence. All that's left for me to say is that i will ride there... More

Our daughter was keen to ride a Dartmoor pony, so we booked a ride here. The stables are not far north of Ashburton, but the drive along winding lanes up to the moor makes it feel like arriving in another world. The stables were efficiently organised with a friendly atmosphere. There was obvious and careful attention to safety. The ride... More

My partner and I visited the riding centre while staying in the area. During the telephone booking we were asked height, weight, ride experience etc. on arrival we were designated a suitable horse to match our experience. Friendly, helpful staff who made sure we were happy before we left the stables. A fantastic two hour ride over beautiful dartmoor. Only... More

We booked a 2 hour riding session for two adults and two teenagers. Three of us had never ridden before. Its was our second visit this year. The staff were brilliant with us. Very patient and our horses were very gentle for us inexperienced riders. A great way to see Dartmoor. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Would highly recommend.

I had never been riding before in my life but fancied doing something different on our short break this summer. Having been terrified of putting myself through this once i had booked it - i ended up thoroughly enjoying it. The staff were wonderful and the ponies were beautiful - they were very patient with the three of us as... More

My daughter and I booked a 2 hour hack at Silstone rocks riding centre. We had some previous experience but not for a while. We were assessed before being taken out and I think the instructor got it absolutely right. We went up onto the moor and did plenty of trotting and a couple of short canters. We felt perfectly... My partner and I went to Shilstone Rock centre for a hack. I told them beforehand on the phone we could (and wanted to) trot and if possible canter but they took us out with beginners so we only walked. They've got 3 types of ride (beginners = walk, novice, expert). Make sure you know what each one includes, and... More
