Walked and cycled parts of this route, very nice way to see a bit of Dartmoor away from traffic. We started at station above Okehampton and cycled towards Lydford, taking in the old quarry workings at Meldon, crossing the viaduct. Quite busy with walkers and cyclists, but then this is a popular route.

Great walking and cycling route on the doorstep, parking nearby, dogs allowed which unfortunately means fouling. Not enough bins on route would encourage people to pick up after their pets. Safe cycling and walking route as the trail is on the old railway line. Trains run along part of the route and there is a lovely tea room as part... More

The variation in the landscape along the 9 mile section from Okehampton to Lydford is spectacular with wonderful views. Nothing to dislike.

With some good pubs nearby, including the famous Highwayman at Sourton. Great cycling over the bridges and the viaduct.

This is a pleasant and not too strenuous walk. There also a cycle path which runs alongside. Beautiful views throughout the area

I biked the entire Granite Way. Rented the bike from the YHA. It was a great outing and biking allows to you cover the whole thing in about 1/2 to 3/4 of a day with only modest effort.

This is a really good bike ride, taking 9 miles to travel from Okehampton to Lydford. The gradients are gentle, following the old railway track, and the surface is very good. The path crosses two remarkable viaducts, with striking views to the valleys below, and up to the high Moor, though for much of the ride the views are obscured... More

Well loved and well used I found it unexciting walking, shaded by trees, alongside the main road for quite a bit and the views mostly absent from the Okehampton end. But like I said, it is a flat and metalled path and well used.

We started out day at Oakhampton station. You can hire bike here is needed. We set off along Route 27 and cycled the 10 miles to Lydford through the beautiful rolling hills and valleys of Dartmoor. It is a short rise if you are reasonably fit, limited climbs and probably about an hour one way. When you get to Lydford... More

We cycled from Lydford to Okehampton station and back again. As others have said, its flat and now doesn't involve any road cycling. Real shame that the cafe at Meldon Viaduct is not currently open. We enjoyed tea and cake there when we were walking in the area a few years back. Lots of families were enjoying the Granite Way... More
