Writing this having been along this today. We often walk/ride this as a family and during school time, my wife and l love to get up there when we can. Loads of places for picnics along the way and the scenery is just gorgeous. Other people using the trail always seem to be friendly and having as good a time... More

Walk the granite way, this can be accessed in many different places so if you want to do the different walks try entering from Sourton Church and walking to the viaduct. For a longer walk try leaving from Lydford and walking through to Okehampton with beautiful views of the various Tors. You can also cycle or horse ride this route.

Nice flat walking cycling path taking in the magic of the hedgerows at this time of year. Check out the birdsong along the way and stop for a quiet thought of days gone by lost in a memory of steam trains on a trundle through the cutting.

Covered the granite way as part of a Devon coast to coast ride. Variable terrain from mostly tarmac cycle path but with surprise sections of very basis trail and even a mile or so of moorland track.Suitable for mountain , trail and touring bikes but leave the out and out racing bikes at home.

Unfortunately I chose to do the walk at a dull weather time and managed to do the whole in 2 hours and 40 minutes, including a stop for coffee and shortbread at the cycle hire place and a 5 minute stand under the bridge at Sourton to miss the worst of the rain! The whole path is pretty level tarmac... More

What a perfect route - we cycled from Ilfracombe to Plymouth on Route 27 - 100 miles over two days. Nearly 70% off-road along old railway lines and cuttings. Views, bridges, viaducts and quality of the cycle route perfect. We had road bikes and there were only a couple of places to walk (about 1/4 mile in total). Highly recommend... More

we walked the route from Sourton back to Meldon and beyond towards Okehampton and then returned to walk in the other direction from Sourton towards Bridestowe. Path is old railway route so gradients were gentle on the sections we walked. Very popular with cyclists over the weekend. Glorious views towards the moors and opportunities to divert onto the moors in... More

This cycle and walking route from Lydford to Okehampton is one of the prettiest routes I have been on for a long time. Somehow it manages to find an almost flat and level route over Dartmoor, and the views in places were great. There are lots of seating at various points for a rest and to admire the view. The... We love the Granite way and have walked lots of different stretches of it. it is safe, flat and a lot of the paths run adjacent to the Moors so you can make detours and circular walks if you please. Cycling is very safe and there is a hire place. Recommended pon a sunny day as there is plenty of... More
