What a perfect route - we cycled from Ilfracombe to Plymouth on Route 27 - 100 miles over two days. Nearly 70% off-road along old railway lines and cuttings. Views, bridges, viaducts and quality of the cycle route perfect. We had road bikes and there were only a couple of places to walk (about 1/4 mile in total). Highly recommend... More

we walked the route from Sourton back to Meldon and beyond towards Okehampton and then returned to walk in the other direction from Sourton towards Bridestowe. Path is old railway route so gradients were gentle on the sections we walked. Very popular with cyclists over the weekend. Glorious views towards the moors and opportunities to divert onto the moors in... More

This cycle and walking route from Lydford to Okehampton is one of the prettiest routes I have been on for a long time. Somehow it manages to find an almost flat and level route over Dartmoor, and the views in places were great. There are lots of seating at various points for a rest and to admire the view. The... We love the Granite way and have walked lots of different stretches of it. it is safe, flat and a lot of the paths run adjacent to the Moors so you can make detours and circular walks if you please. Cycling is very safe and there is a hire place. Recommended pon a sunny day as there is plenty of... More

Watch the steeper parts if you're not an experienced biker like me - the route down is fun...... But you can avoid the steeper bits and for the novice this is an ideal beautiful setting and I thoroughly enjoyed my day! Without doubt visit the unusual pub called highwayman! It's spooky but well worth it!

We hired a tandem to travel up and down the Granite Way, although in parts the track wasn't completed there were gorgeous views across the Meldon Viaduct. My wife and I had a lovely time!

Walked and cycled parts of this route, very nice way to see a bit of Dartmoor away from traffic. We started at station above Okehampton and cycled towards Lydford, taking in the old quarry workings at Meldon, crossing the viaduct. Quite busy with walkers and cyclists, but then this is a popular route.

Great walking and cycling route on the doorstep, parking nearby, dogs allowed which unfortunately means fouling. Not enough bins on route would encourage people to pick up after their pets. Safe cycling and walking route as the trail is on the old railway line. Trains run along part of the route and there is a lovely tea room as part... More

The variation in the landscape along the 9 mile section from Okehampton to Lydford is spectacular with wonderful views. Nothing to dislike.

With some good pubs nearby, including the famous Highwayman at Sourton. Great cycling over the bridges and the viaduct.
