Nice Park Area Near Downtown

It took me years to finally go to the top of the Sun Sphere, but I recommend it on a clear day. The elevator takes you to the top and you get a 360 view of many local sites. The... read more

This is a nice area for folks who work downtown to walk at lunch, or for UT students to relax. Not really sure if it would be worth a special stop if you are visiting the city, though.

Lovely landscaped park for walking (daytime or at night - it is well-lit), reading a book, playing outside or napping on the lawns. There is a playground, a war memorial and very cool water fountains you can play in. It's also on a greenway in case you want to walk down to/along the river or over to the UT campus.

One of my favorite places in Knoxville to take a stroll. There are several spots that you can see yourself in the sunsphere, it's great fun and would keep you busy for hours.

This is a spacious park nestled between downtown and the university. It is a great remembrance of the 1982 Worlds fair and also has a section where military from the various wars are remembered. It is great for relaxing or walking at any time and often has special events held there which we have attended.

Don't feel as if you MUST visit when you're in Knoxville. Maybe is was the time of year we went, but nothing that impressive. We walked around a bit, nothing else much going on.

This can be a nice place to walk, bike and/or picnic. It is convenient to the river area, UT and downtown. We like biking through it. They have done much work to it in recent years and it shows. There is a grassy area, water attraction and amphitheater. It can get crowded during events.

Since I'm usually staying in the Holiday Inn next-door, this is where I've bike or run or walk. Also fun to look around and remember how it all looked during the worlds fair.

Great 360 views of Knoxville and surrounding area. Also houses a good collection of the 1982 World's Fair event. Interesting photos and information. Free to public.

The last time we were here we were dinning inside the ball atop the elevator structures. It was 1982 and we were here for the worlds fair. This place served a Thomas Jefferson Pie that we went back every night for dinner just to eat it. Of course everything else is gone but this park keeps a memory of a... More
