This area of town is in transition in it's clean up and evolve progress. It shows great promise and the old vintage buildings are worth a drive through this area. In this locale you will find The Melting Pot, Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria, and The Crown and Goose for dining. There are bars and a night life in the area.... More

I like the old world feel in the restaurants as well as the street itself. Many places, such as the Crown and Goose, Barley's and Boyds Jig and Reel have the exposed brick, architechture and feel of the original building, bringing out the character and setting them apart from modern, monotonous chains. You can park with relative security and fairly... More

This area gives you a great variety of bars and restaurants to choose from to get away from the college crowd on the strip and the swarms of people that end up in Market Square. They've done a really great job of reviving this part of downtown.

We recently ate at a restaurant in the Old City. On the way into the establishment, we were "hit up" for money from a beggar, then again on the way out (a different vagrant). It is very discouraging to try to help the businesses there by patronizing them, only to have the local vagabonds detract. Come On, City of Knoxville,... More

Nice part of town to drive though. Too many homeless begging for me to want to walk it. Every time I have been in the Old City someone has asked me for money! They need a better parking area too. There is a really nice winery there and English style pup but, again the beggars keep up away from that... More

Not impressed-plenty of "night creatures" prowling about. I am sure Old City won't miss my money very much but I really can't find a reason to go anymore. The bar scene looks busy but I they want more than that traffic they need to reformat.

Ironically, this is not the oldest part of Knoxville, but it is known as the Old City. A great collection of restaurants, clubs, and businesses. During the day, a great place to catch a bite to eat. At night, many of the clubs/restaurants have bands. Some of the restaurants have outdoor eating areas, too. There are a couple of parking... More

Worth the walk from Market Square. Wonderful old buildings. A good place to take in the architecture and stop by Crown Goose for a drink. Wonderful atmosphere.
