Alex Haley's Home - Excellent

Glad I had an opportunity to hear the additional history of Alex Haley along touring his grandparents house, followed by walking through the museum.

The Alex Haley House Museum has is located in Henning, Tennessee in a quiet residential neighborhood. Park in the back by the Museum. When we were there the doors were locked but we rattled them and a friendly staff member let us in. You see a short movie about Alex Haley and the movie Roots then are free to wander... More

As a long time genealogist, visiting Alex Haley's birthplace was a must. They have a very nice modern visitor center behind the house, and a guide leads you on a tour of his boyhood home. Very personal, very informative, only myself and one other person on the tour. Beautiful country home. Haley is buried in the front yard (didn't know... More

The Alex Haley House Museum is located north of Memphis and is worth the drive. What history is in this home! Our guide was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. I would recommend everyone stop here.

This is such a great place to learn the history of such an important era. We watched a short film of how the film "Roots" was made and the Authors writing of the book. The Director was very knowledgeable and helpful. You would never believe such a great place would be in such a little town as Henning, TN.

Very interesting museum...came to view with my relatives. The operator was very friendly and her mother was a ball of laughs. Enjoyed the time taken to show us around. Will definitely return.

We began our visit with a 15 - 20 minute movie on Alex Haley and the making of the iconic mini-series, "Roots", which was very well done. We continued the visit by spending time in the interpretive center which chronicled slavery as well as Haley's life and the life of his family. We completed our tour by visiting Haley's home... I first discovered Henning when I was looking for a second house to buy and yes, I did purchase one in Henning. I didn't know Alex Haley's boyhood home was located there until my Realtor was showing me other properties near Henning. We decided to stop by the the house and museum. I feel it's a stop everyone should make... More

Alex Haley is a pivotal figure in American culture, and it was an absolute thrill to set foot on the home he spent so much of his childhood in. The new Visitor's center is also very nice, with an outstanding video about the impact of Roots. This attraction is very much out of the way but also very much worth... More
