I like seeing history preserved. This monument has been in Dyer County for several years. I live away now and when I return we always take time to get a picture

The monument is a part of the court house square and shares a part of the local history. To really learn about some of the culture of the past, you need to see it from both sides.

There are multiple monuments in the square. The confederate one is informative and gives information on all the battles men in the area served in. There were no battles on the actual site. One monument is for all veterans and was a project by en Eagle Scout from the area. Wonderful short walk.

Just to realize the dedication that people have in trying to preserve a way of life, a culture and their forefathers makes one stop and stand in awe of such good craftsmanship and purpose in the monument.

There are many, many small town courthouse lawns across the South decorated with a Confederate monument, similar to the one in Dyersburg. This monument is not to any one person, but to all Dyer County Confederate soldiers. It is decorated with the names of major battles that Dyer County troops participated in. It also has flags, cannonballs and a cannon... More
