Very cool access road that lets you drive on top of the dam (one-way) for the full 8500'+ length. Spectacular views of Lookout Valley and the Tennessee River Gorge, good hiking trails, somewhat easy to get turned around. Set a GPS waypoint. Park at Laurel Point and hike back to the dam for a good, solid, woodsy, relatively easy hike.

This TVA property is owned and maintained by TVA, a branch of the federal government. Be sure and go to the visitor center to the Tennessee River Gorge overlook. Beautiful view. There are miles and miles of trails, all accessible by foot, and most by bike.

Went for a Sunday evening drive and ended up going up Raccoon mnt. Beautyful drive and views from the top over lookd downtown Chattanooga. Lot of deer, mountain bike riding all over the mountain hiking trails as well, fishing down on the river not bad either.

The dam is a very nice/quiet place to visit. Very scenic but the visitor's center is closed until april so be aware of this before you go. I would recommend this if in the area as the natural area is so nice and scenic.

Beautiful location with great scenery, mountain biking, hiking trails, picnic tables etc. Site is a TVA power generating plant using pumped storage to generate power. Visitor Center is closed until April 2014 but enough exhibits to understand how power is generated. Well maintained, good roads. Would be great for a family for the day.

We are currently staying at RV Mountain RV Park and drove to the dam yesterday. There is a breathtaking few of the city and the Tennessee River. It is very peaceful at the lookout spot and the drive around the reservoir is also breathtaking. It is an excellent spot for pictures and well worth the time and additionally, it is... More

Here is another reason why I hate the people who attacked us in 2001, and our country's reaction to the attacks. This used to be an incredible place to visit. Yes, today it is still a beautiful site with lots of wildlife and picnic areas. The view of the Tennessee River gorge from the observation platform is gorgeous. But before... More

Saw Wild Turkeys and Deer on the way in but Lake is very low and closed for major maintenance. Nice for a picnic but not much for the kids the day we went.
