Raccoon Mountain was a very cool place! This unique lake atop the Tennessee River Gorge was absolutely amazing. The views were breathtaking. We were greeted by a park volunteer, Mr. Mccool, he was so informative and kind. We enjoyed the rich history of this lake, the gorgeous views and hikes on the mountain!

This was a very good attraction, if you like caves. Nice and cool on the inside, and a great exercising walk. Don't drink the water at the end. The kids really liked it.

We drove to the top of the mountain to check out the pumped storage plant. It was a lovely drive and a beautiful view. The visitor's center was a pleasant surprise - surprisingly high tech with a knowledgeable staff. However, we didn't get to tour the plant. Apparently, for a long time tours were not allowed for security reasons. They... More

Went to Raccoon Mountain TVA Recreation Area for a hike. The trails were poorly marked, if at all. The provided trail map was not helpful. Views on the trail were mediocre. Our drive through the area to the trailhead was quite lovely though. Even saw an eagle. And the visitor center was interesting. Don't recommend it for hiking though.

After crowds on lookout mountain, you will enjoy lack of them on this beautiful drive to the dam. Visitor center is very informative and has great views overlooking the Tennessee River Gorge. The volunteer at the visitor center was very pleasant and eager to explain the whole process of generating electricity. He mentioned they were closing visitor center soon for... More

Dam is a pump storage facility for the TVA. They pump water to the top of the mountain and store it. Then they run it through the turbines for electricity during peak demand times. Visitors center is informative and interesting. Beautiful views. Great hiking/biking trails.

Was a really nice hike leaving from the Laurel Park with my wife and 5, 8, and 10 year old children. While traveling around the perimeter lake we got to see a bald eagle catch a fish and fly off. Was really beautiful. Wish we had more time and next time we will bring our bikes.

Very cool access road that lets you drive on top of the dam (one-way) for the full 8500'+ length. Spectacular views of Lookout Valley and the Tennessee River Gorge, good hiking trails, somewhat easy to get turned around. Set a GPS waypoint. Park at Laurel Point and hike back to the dam for a good, solid, woodsy, relatively easy hike.

This TVA property is owned and maintained by TVA, a branch of the federal government. Be sure and go to the visitor center to the Tennessee River Gorge overlook. Beautiful view. There are miles and miles of trails, all accessible by foot, and most by bike.

Went for a Sunday evening drive and ended up going up Raccoon mnt. Beautyful drive and views from the top over lookd downtown Chattanooga. Lot of deer, mountain bike riding all over the mountain hiking trails as well, fishing down on the river not bad either.
