Owner description: Did you know The designation of DUKW is not a military pun - the name comes from the terminology used for military vehicles in World War II; the D indicates a vehicle designed in 1942, the U meant "utility (amphibious)", the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles. Although technically a misnomer, DUKWs are often referred to as duck boats. Another popular nickname was old magoo or simply magoo. Though the origin of this term is unknown, it probably refers to the odd shape of the vehicle. DUKWs became known as ''Ducks'' and are still in use, as well as purpose-built amphibious tour buses, primarily as tourist transport in harbor and river cities.

We try to take everyone who visits us on the Duck tours. I recommend asking for Captain Barry. We've been on four trips with him and I learn something new every time. Entertaining and informative plus beautiful downtown Chattanooga and the Tennessee River. Great for all ages. For the mobility impaired it could be difficult climbing up the ladder like... More

The Duck ride was great. I was skeptical at first. But the history of these amphibious vehicles is amazing. The tour guide was great to point out the history of the vehicle and the city of Chattanooga. The ride takes about an hour to an hour and a half. Be sure to bring a blanket or coat if the weather... I was born and raised just over in Georgia. Seen Chattanooga go from a dump to a great place to visit. This will just add to your experience and history to Chattanooga. Berry was wonderful and talked non stop the whole trip. Used us to help tell stories of the families and help mold Chattanooga. Great time.... Would recommend.....

Very pleasant guide, keen to tell us what he knew about Chattanooga and it's development. The ride along the riverfront took a little over an hour and we saw turtles, cormorants, hawks and a miss matched pair of ducks who have buddied up. Scenery lovely and lots of interesting architecture too. Well worth the cost.

We cannot recommend this tour highly enough. It was great fun and very informative (which we weren't expecting). Not really suitable for very young children as they got bored.

We took a soccer team with parents on the trip and it was enjoyed by all. Captain Barry was very fun and knowledgeable. He allowed all of the kids to have a turn in the driver's seat, and he never stopped sharing interesting facts about the sites we were seeing. Our favorite part was entering the water...very exciting!

Great tour down the river, nice to just sit and ride and listen to some of Chattanooga's history and see the sites along the river. Tour guide was entertaining, not sure if all the stories were true or not but definitely entertaining.

we tried Chattanooga ducks on the recommendation of our daughter and she could not have been more correct. The tour guide is hysterically funny while being loaded with a lot of very interesting information. The trip down the river is delightful and I highly recommend this to everybody

A unique experience, they load you on a WWII era amphibious vehicle. You drive to the dock where they put the vehicle in the water. I won't spoil what they do next. The driver/tour guide takes you down the TN river a few miles (they even let some of the kids drive at this point). $20 well spent. Chattanooga is... More
