Did you know The designation of DUKW is not a military pun - the name comes from the terminology used for military vehicles in World War II; the D indicates a vehicle designed in 1942, the U meant "utility (amphibious)", the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles. Although technically a misnomer, DUKWs are often referred to as duck boats. Another popular nickname was old magoo or simply magoo. Though the origin of this term is unknown, it probably refers to the odd shape of the vehicle. DUKWs became known as ''Ducks'' and are still in use, as well as purpose-built amphibious tour buses, primarily as tourist transport in harbor and river cities.

If you're visiting Chattanooga , do this tour. I agree with all the other reviews about Captain Barry. Dude is funny, loves kids, and a wealth of knowledge. Plan for 2 hrs.

I'd never done a duck tour and I'm so glad this was my first. We learned so much about the history of the river, the town's past, the sights, and some crazy guy free climbing a sheer cliff overhanging the water. On top of that BOTH my tiny kids drove the boat for a while- like 10 minutes each not... More

Captain Barry did a super job not only giving history of the surrounding area but also very entertaining! Kid friendly! Wish we would have done this on our first day!

Always nice to go on the river. Tour guide super friendly! But if comparing it to the duck tour in Boston I feel like i learned way more history on the Boston ducks. That being said it is still an enjoyable trip and fun for the kids especially if you have never been on a duck boat before.

I will have to start off saying our tour guide was the best. You need to ask for Captain Barry. He has so much knowledge of Chattanoga. The day we went was March 14th. The river was up 10 feet from its normal level. Barry was really informative on the different areas of the river and an excellent guide. We... More

This was a great experience. The tour guide was so friendly he even let me drive the duck! It was awesome. I recommend everyone do this. You learn history, laugh, and spend your time out on the water. It is really great and I want to go back.

We went out with another family to do this tour. We all had a blast and learned a lot in the process. The kids loved it and even got to drive in the river for a while!

We try to take everyone who visits us on the Duck tours. I recommend asking for Captain Barry. We've been on four trips with him and I learn something new every time. Entertaining and informative plus beautiful downtown Chattanooga and the Tennessee River. Great for all ages. For the mobility impaired it could be difficult climbing up the ladder like... More
