"Staffed by Army Corps of Engineers rangers, the visitor center is located on Nebraska Highway 121 slightly more than four miles west of US 81. The building overlooks Gavins Point Dam, Lewis and Clark Lake and a portion of the 59-mile reach of the National Park." View of the dam is actually very pretty. They also have historical markers to... More

We drove through to see the sights - very nice area. Park was very clean, excellent views of the river, the lake and the dam. We did not camp, but the camping spots looked excellent. Almost all of them were shaded and looked pretty roomy. Most everyone was in an RV or a trailer, not too many tents.

I grew up in Yankton and was a park Game Fish and Parks ranger for 4 years. The reviews I've read are mixing up the many locations, attractions, and activities that encompass the Lewis And Clark Recreation Area (the state park west of the dam), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Campgrounds (east of the dam), the Gavins Point National... Great state park, lots of camping, beach and swimming activities for families. City of Yankton is about 7 miles away with many restaurant and stores for camping supplies. Whenever I visit the Yankton area, camping at Lewis and Clark lake for a week is a must for our family.

Great place to camp, lots to do, clean and great views! Took the Grandsons to the Christmas in July celebration for three years now. The boys are already asking how much longer until we can go again!

i had a few hours to kill, so I went out to the Lewis and Clark Recreation Area. I was just looking for someplace to simply sit, enjoy the view, maybe a quick nap. I got out there, found a shady spot in the shade, and watched the water.mimsaw three canoes, two kayak, and several people fishing from the shoreline.... More

This is one of my favorite places. The views are gorgeous. The beaches are great, The only problem is that they could have restrooms on both ends of Midway Beach.

Interesting displays and good views. History of the Corp, large display of fallout shelter materials from the cold war, interactive kid-friendly exhibits (a "steamboat" with whistle and wheel, pioneer clothing for dress-up, and more. Exhibit on settling of the west is a bit too one-sided (glory of the settlers, etc.) -- could use a bit of balance. Worth a stop... More

We go here once or twice a year just to walk along the beautiful lake and dam. The water is so clean and clear. There is a $6 entrance fee per car which is very reasonable. You can rent boats, canoes, and kayaks at several places along the highway, and they transport your rental to the lake. There is also... More

We had a great time enjoying nature. This is a great place to bring the kids and spend a few days or more.
