we took a big boat from isle mujeres, went to cancun and picked up about 30 people. too many for that boat, but they say it can handle 50. snorkeling was a joke. the guides were so worried about keeping everyone together, that you couldn't explore at all. but the island was amazing. seeing that many frigate birds was wonderful.... Day visits only preserve this beautiful sanctuary. Trees full of mating frigate birds, beaches with iguana and hermit crabs, flamingos in august, and lots of other beautiful birds. I would have wished for a tour guide with more natural history, wildlife knowledge but the place is great. The government could invest more in the facilities and that would really help... More

We went on this tour with thomsons. From out hotel azul sensatori the bus rude to Cancun was about 30minutes then you wait in a hut before getting on a speed boat. The boat we had was quite big for a group of about 12people, of all the boats that day ours looked the most comfortable the others were so... More

Isla Contoy is not for the faint of heart! The boat ride can be very rough and once on the island, the services are limited to primitive! However, this is wild Mexico prior to the development of the "Mayan Riviera" and I'm so happy this small sanctuary is protected! I saw Flamingos and Ibis and nesting Frigatebirds! Snorkeling was awesome!... More

We booked this through our tour rep. It was sold as 'hidden gem' a sanctuary of unspoiled beaches etc. The beach itself is small with no sun loungers - u need to remember u are spending at least 4 hours on this island. Toilets - the island has no running water!! Yes u heard correct that = sanitation problems. No... More

I took this all-day excursion at the beginning of March, 2014. It is a nice day trip from Cancun. The island is a very quiet bird sanctuary with a nice beach. It has a small museum and walking trails to the lagoon, where there are numerous birds, and to other parts of the island. Drinks and beer and lunch are... More

I am planning to take my 9 yrs old daughter to Isla Contoy Tour in mid-March. Any one has experiences taking their kid(s) on this tour before? It's an all-day event so beside the heat. Just wonder if any child are physically fit for this tour. How are the weather, wave condition and ferry ride (or bathroom facility) like during... More

Contoy is a park island reached by boat from Isla Mujures near Cancun, Mexico. Our boat picked us up at a nearby beach restaurant then returned to the town dock for gas and more passengers. Our group of 7 was joined by another group of 5. Boat had a canopy for shade. Plenty of life jackets in all sizes. Powered... More

My daughter and I decided to take a day trip to this unspoiled island in search of paradise! What we found was an island with no running water, toilets that don't flush and millions of sand crabs. There is almost no shade ( thank goodness the day we went starting out cloudy) and the only blessing is that it wasn't... More

The beach was so amazing! The water was so beautiful. We saw lots of fish snorkeling including a nice size stingray! We were the first people on the island and the last to leave :)
